DVD Talk review of 'JFK: 3 Shots That Changed America'
I read Paul Mavis's DVD review of JFK: 3 Shots That Changed America at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=43852 and...
Excellent show and an excellent review -- one thing I'd like to mention though is that one of the things that impressed me the most about this documentary is that much of the footage wasn't kinescope, it was the original b/w videotape (or possibly kinescope restored via a process like the VidFIRE used on b/w Doctor Whos?).
I suspect that the various agencies did keep the actual VT of this stuff, however. The assassination of Oswald is particularly chilling; the "live" feel of the VT puts you right in the moment.

Thanks, Chris -- I honestly couldn't tell. It looked so clean, I assumed it was boosted kinescope (like they did for those Elvis on Ed Sullivan shows). The "shape" of much of the footage looked like it was taken off a rounded TV monitor, which made me lean towards kinescope. With videotape being so prohibitively expensive then, would they have saved it? Maybe, because of the historical value. I don't know. That's why just a five-minute extra from the filmmakers, explaining where they found this amazing footage (and exactly what that footage was) would have been really welcome.
