Just got back from a midnight show. Best parody comedy since Team America, and if not for that the first Naked Gun. It's headache-inducingly funny, and if you still can't get a grasp on why the 80's are over, you'll love it, especially if you still think the Soviet Union exists, or Mr. Mister is popular, or you find The Delta Force and Red Dawn to not be cheesy at all nowadays. Probably the funniest movie of 2010.

I didn't like it at all. I prefer my parody-type movies to be a little more clever and witty like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

I had a good time with the R-rated version of MacGruber, a SNL character, it's very much over-the-top, with very low-brow, broad humor that actually worked for this character, MacGruber.
There are a few scenes that you'll wish you could un-see, but they are funny, nonetheless. It's not a great script, but the principals involves (Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, and Ryan Phillippe) are more than game for any of the embarrassing sight-gags and dialogue for a laugh. Vall Kilmer actually showed up and played up his part to the hilt, with the limited amount of material he had to work with as well.
I was also grateful that a lot of the funny stuff didn't make it into the trailers (mainly because it would be red-band trailer material).
I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

Maybe having a long week at work helped my reaction to the film, but comedy is subjective, and it did feature a lot of crude humor that fit the character/concept.

I didn't laugh much at all. It was definitely a hard "R" but wasn't very clever at all, IMO.
Maybe I didn't laugh much because there were only 3 people in the whole theater.
However, I would imagine 13 or 14 year old boys would probably find this thing to be a comedy riot (no disrepect to any adults that did like the film).
Will Forte is definitely not a leading man at any level. He might be a good bit player in a screwball comedy though.

Looks like MacGruber self destructed at the boxoffice with a less than explosive 4.5mill now projected for the weekend. I guess you could call it a boxoffice bomb. Don't think we'll be seeing any sequels unless they're DTV.
And if you want to see this movie at the theater, better hurry.

I kinda-sorta half-enjoyed it the first time I watched it, but it doesn't stand up to any more viewings, IMHO (& YMMV, most certainly).
I just have a problem with what my ex-wife and I called "dumb comedies". For every classic like Dumb And Dumber, you get 100 or more crapfests like Scary Movie and it's ilk.
I never could understand the love for movies like Naked Gun or Anchorman [gawd, how that one makes me shudder].

I just saw it and thought it was decent. Definitely had some big laughs but a lot of the material just doesn't work. If you don't like DUMB comedy, don't waste your time. But it was enjoyable for the most part.

I didn't get to see this yet but, Val Kilmer's review is as follows:
"I'm proud of how bad this film is," Kilmer, who plays a villain named Dieter Von ****h, told The Wall Street Journal. "In fact, I can't believe I just called it a film. It's a two-hour skit."
On Forte and Wiig:
"They're both in their own class, when it comes to subtle comedy, and in terms of classlessness, MacGruber is truly one of the dumbest characters ever," he said. "I guess there are those guys from ‘Dumb and Dumber' - but that's silly dumb. This is desperate, realistic dumb."

Re: MacGruber (Taccone, 2010) — The Reviews Thread
That was one of the funniest running gags.
By SNL movie standards of the past twenty years, this movie is one of the all-time classics.
By any other standard, this is a very funny movie. It's dumb, but it's funny-dumb. (It is not weird-dumb or smart-dumb like Anchorman, which I personally love).
I was a bit tired when I saw it, but I laughed a lot. One of the people I saw the movie with commented on the fact that it would improve in subsequent viewings. It's possible.
Recommended, if the themes intrigue you.
