So can I assume I can watch this without catching up on last weeks? That one might have to be one that I watch in the doldrums of Summer when I'm going through the Tivo.

You can, though I don't really understand why you would choose to miss any new episode of this show. Last week's may not have been mythology heavy, but it did have some relevance on the new dynamic of Walter and Peter's relationship, imo.

But that's your call....

I thought this episode was pretty good. I would have looked more Walter and Olivia though. The big reveal at the end was expected.

The reveal was great someone in one of the earlier threads was dead on with their theory.

I really liked tonight's episode. I think the reveal was easily guessed, but still awesome to see. I want to see Walter and Walternate go head to head.

Fully functional brain beats swiss-cheese brain, and Walternate still has the animating drive and brilliance that was stolen from Walter. I don't see how that can be much of a contest.

And yet the reason Walter crossed in the first place was to prevent Walternate from implementing a "cure" that would have killed Peter. I wouldn't be so sure about your conclusions especially considering that Walter's side has "soldiers" like Olivia waiting to spring into action on his side.

Oh and can I just say that Martha Plimpton certainly grew into her looks?!

I think our Walter still has plenty of brilliance and drive -- he's just more colourful about it. And as I said previously, I think that Walternate will prove to be a cold and heartless beast. And as we all know, warm and colourful will always beat cold and heartless.

Does anybody else think that this show uses the keep-the-character-in-total-darkness-before-the-big-reveal shtick way too much? They did it with Spock and now with Walternate. If I was a director, I'd be embarrassed to use this tacky and predictable canard even once let alone twice.

Huh? I thought he went over there was because Walternate was testing for the cure, figured it out, but moved past it because he got interrupted during the test. Walter wanted to make sure Peter got the cure before he died.

Walter saw that Walternate was headed down the incorrect path and stepped in to rescue Peter who would have died otherwise. Point is Walter solved the problem by finding the cure and implementing it first. Hence Walter's conflict. Walter feels badly for lying to Peter all this time and yet regrets nothing when it comes to the fact that Peter is at least still alive to resent Walter for his actions.

I loved how they made you think that Newton being involved was all in Peters head until the last 30 seconds when BAM he's there in Peters room and real. I knew the Walternate thing was coming but it was still awesome seeing him.

I still think you are wrong. He was watching through the window to the other universe. Walternate was working on the cure. Walter saw he had the figured out the cure, based on the color the solution turned, but Walternate got interrupted and he didn't see the results. Walter then felt he needed to go over and save Peter.

I really liked how Peter on his own in an investigation turned out to be a lot like Walter- explaining how he'd seen something like this before, finding some unconventional experiment to try and pinpoint the killer's location and generally acting insane.

My point is that Peter would have died without Walter crossing over. So no one would have had a Peter had Walter done nothing. Walternate's cure would not have been implemented in time to save him. Walter administered the cure (which he KNEW would work from his Peter dying - why else would Walternate ignoring his own results compel Walter to action?) and saved Peter.

Re: Fringe -- "Northwest Passage" -- 05/06/10

that part at the end wasn't really a surprise if anyone has been watching

the episode itself pretty much let you know, when i looked at the clock when it was like 8:59P i was like um, i'm pretty sure that they didn't need 4 writers to do the episode and not have an ultimate point to the Peter/Newton stuff throughout the episode, and then there it was

wonder why it took 20 years though for Walternate to come back for Peter?

I have a feeling Peter is the tipping point of some sort, and the culmination of the alternate universe's work has been leading to this specific period of time. They probably could have excuted their plans earlier, but waiting for a certain point before starting things.

It was mentioned in a prior episode that only one of the two universes will survive, plus it was mentioned by the Watchers that Peter is important - perhaps whichever universe has Peter is the one that survives?

Also, I think it was also mentioned that the other side hasn't really perfected a gate, and it was only until that episode involving pieces of Walter's brain that they finally got it.
