Happy Town -- "I Came to Haplin for the Waters" -- 05/05/10

Synopsis:
Spoiler:
"I Came to Haplin for the Waters" was written by Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg and directed by Gary Fleder.
Episode 2 of 8
I liked the 1st episode. It's a little different than your typical serialized drama. Surprised to see quite a few negative opinions last week.
BTW, did anyone notice this show is from the makers of Life on Mars (the U.S. version)?

Just caught the DVR of the premiere last night. It was okay, but seemed trying too hard to be Twin Peaks. I'll give the next two eps a shot, as it's too early to call IMO.

I really liked the 1st episode. Great cast, too.
There are certainly plenty of mysteries to be explained over the next 7 episodes.

Unfortunately I think it will drop in the ratings. Cougar Town is not a great lead-in and that show already loses alot of Modern Family's audience. Let's just hope that ABC is committed to airing the remaining 7 episodes to fill this timeslot since they really have nothing else.

This episode felt like they were doing random crap for the sake of being random. Therefore i will keep watching, because who doesn't like the television equivalent of "i don't know if what we are writing makes any sense, so here's a bunny with a pancake on its head."

Without reading any spoilers, should I watch this episode? I was a bit bored with the pilot and not very impressed. I've got other shows on the dvr, so I'm looking for the first person to tell me yes or no and I'll either watch it or erase it. You're determining my future.

The cast is great and I really like the show's visual style. The dialogue can be a bit clunky at times, but with the great cast it comes off as less tacky. I'm also very intrigued by the premise and the characters; the characters are well-established, but are very ambiguous to the point where you really don't know who is good and who is bad and what is motivating most of the people to do the things they do, which I like.
In particular I enjoyed the barn fight scene and seeing Tommy go from avoiding confrontation in the first episode to being a total bad-ass this episode. The scene with Henley (Chloe) making the key and Merritt intervening to give her some more time was a pretty fun scene.
I don't really see how everything that happened in this episode fits together with what we've seen thus far, but I think I remember reading that the writers already have a clear beginning, middle, and end in mind for these 8 episodes, so I'm not too worried. I've enjoyed it so far and look forward to seeing the remaining episodes.
Just stick with it; this episode was better than the pilot. It's going to end up being an 8-part miniseries anyway, might as well see it through to the end.

Thought it was OK, but bordering a little on the boring side. I liked it a little less than the premiere, but I'm still intrigued enough to tune in.

That's all I needed. I'll probably get to it over the weekend. I didn't know it was only 8 episodes...I watched all 24(?) episodes of Heroes season 3, so I can tolerate any show for only 8 episodes.

I hate that Carley Simon (sp?) song.......I have never liked it, it was enough for me to not want to continue watching this show after it has been referenced for the third time in two episodes. I quit, I hope everyone else likes and enjoys it though!

Given the ratings, I expect this to be pulled right away and finish out during June/July. No way will ABC keep a 1.2 show on during sweeps.

I liked this ep. better than the first. Definitely intriguing to me. Guess it's imperative that it get canned shortly.

I couldn't do it. I made it half way through the episode last night and had to shut it off. I can't stand most of the acting, especially the sheriff's son, and then the key making scene sealed the deal. Enjoy everyone.

It couldn't hold my attention, so I had it on in the background while I was surfing the web, which underscored the bad dialogue and the bad acting. There's nothing else I watch in that time slot, but I think I'm done with it.
The best thing about that key-making scene was that it made me want to see "The Great Train Robbery" again. Donald Sutherland did it much better!

Agent Cooper finally showed up. Love the coffee part as soon as he walked out...and Agent Frost sent him.
