"Rumble Fish" - a film from 1983, yet showed a 1990's "fat" Chris Penn?????

I don't understand. This was filmed in 1982 (most likely), released in 1983, yet Christopher Penn is all fat and bloated. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?! 1984 saw the release of Footloose, and Penn was a skinny kid; 1986 saw the release of At Close Range, and Penn was a skinny kid. 1992 released Reservoir Dogs, and the Christopher Penn there resembled the Christopher Penn in Rumble Fish in 1983!!

I'm flabbergasted!!

I couldn't finish the movie, regardless. The whole film seemed like a dream sequence: everyone was calling "Rusty James." Not "Rusty," not "Russ," not "James," but RUSTY JAMES. Who calls someone by their whole name, ALL THE TIME?!

I pass on this. I"ll throw it away - anyone want it?

I guess some folks "retired," and I get the title by default? Or is it earned?

Yeah? Then explain it to me? Why was Penn fat? Why was Dillon "Rusty James" all the time?! I think the critics at the time bashed the film with good merit. It's just plain "out-there."

I'm going to guess he gained and lost weight between projects. Amazing I know.

doesn't seem possible, I'm sorry. I'm thinking they took out the Chris Penn from the '83 movie, and re did only HIS parts sometime in the '90's, and then super-imposed it back into the film.

That's what I think.

Vincent D'onofrio was noticeably larger when filming Full Metal Jacket than Adventures in Babysitting. He gained 50lbs for the role of Private Pyle. Then he wasn't as big when he did Mystic Pizza the year after.

Penn probably did the same, losing weight after All the Right Moves and Footloose.

He's not that FAT in the movie:

Whatever happened to the actor in the back left? His name was "William H. Gates" as I recall.

Maybe Rusty was his first name and James was his middle name and there was another kid in town named Rusty, an older kid whom ever'body called Rusty, so, as not to get confused, they called the second Rusty, Rusty James. Like if you got two gals named Mary in a town and the second one is named Mary Lou, they call the second one Mary Lou and not just Mary. Y'see?

OR, it could be sort of a nickname like. Young James was playin' baseball out on the sandlot one day and he couldn't strike anybody out like he used to or he couldn't make the throw to 3rd just right, so they told him that he was gettin' "rusty," so thereupon ever'body in town started callin' him "Rusty James" and it just kind'a took.

Back in the day/when small-town folks had ways, so to speak.

A teacher of mine once told me that there is no such thing as a stupid question. I'm going to go punch that teacher.

I met a girl one time and her entire family called her Velma Kaye. It was freaking weird, not to mention her brother liked to dry hump snakes he caught out back in there yard and her cousin was freaking out that she seen her first "other person" (a african american) at a store the other day.
