Stuart Galbraith IV must be stopped!
Actually I quite like the fella's reviews, but they do raise a question..
Is there a limit on the number of "DVD Talk Collector Series" awards that a reviewer can deliver?
If so Stewie must have run roughshod over that barrier and gobbled up some of Adam Tyner's as well.

Didn't we have a thread a couple years ago discussing possible changes to the rating system?
My argument has always been that a single reviewer should not be able to give the "DVDTalk Collector Series" rating. It implies a site or forum opinion. Some of the titles that have received this rating are almost laughable. Three or so titles a year getting that rating, making it a true 'Hall of Fame' sort of thing would be my preference.

I agree with starman9000. It seems odd to give that classification to a theatrical release, but other than that, I have no problem with a single reviewer giving that classification to a DVD or Blu-ray release.

I don't see anything strange or different that Stuart Galbraith is doing versus other reviewers. The only wierd thing that he did was give CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - The Ninth Season (Blu-ray) a "DVD Talk Collector Series" award. Other than that, he reviews a lot of Criterions, which is a company that usually gets high marks.

Who cares, really? It's all subjective. I'd rather get on The O for giving Indy 4 that distinction than anything Galbraith has bestowed it upon.

I think the original choice for this rating was If This Were Available For Collecting On DVD, Then I, The Reviewer, Would Certainly Want To Have It In My Collection.

When I reviewed for the site, I only gave the Collector's rating when the whole package deserved it. So it would have to be pretty close to top tier across the board. Out of 191 reviews, I gave 11 Collector's ratings (12 if you count my two reviews of Blade Runner, one for each HD format), or around 6%.

Hey, if a DVD or blu ray release really is that good why not give it the Collector's Series rating? I don't care if there are 3 or 30 of them each year - if the entire package (picture/sound quality, extras, packaging, movie quality) is that good then it deserves the rating, and if it isn't then it doesn't.
To me that's pretty simple.

Re: Stuart Galbraith IV must be stopped!
This thread seems like a good place to post my Stuart Galbraith IV story:
In 2001 the NuArt Theater in Los Angeles was doing a 2 or 3 week revival of Kurosawa, and Galbraith the fifth's book on Kurosawas had just come out. So he was scheduled to appear before a screening of Stray Dog to speak about the film.
Now I need to go on a tangent and explain that the manager of the NuArt at that time (and maybe to this day, I don't really know) was the guy who was the "movie geek" on that Comedy Central gameshow "Beat the Geek". So Galbraith the Sixth is a no-show and Movie Geek gets up before the screening to tell us all that the scheduled author was unfortunately unable to make it. Movie Geek proceeds to ridicule Galbraith VII by immagining that he is at home, like all writers, slumped over a typewriter with a bottle of boubon curled in his arms. We all had a good laugh.
