twists that damage the movie
It doesn't have to be twists that completely ruin the movie, but also just damages it. Two that come to mind for me are The Game and Identity. They damaged the movie, but didn't quite ruin them for me.
What about everyone else?

imo, the twist in Identity made it a great movie, though I know many disagree, love that movie. The Game's final twist was eye rolling more due to how it played out than the fact it was a twist.
Haute Tension is the first one that comes to mind for me.

SHUTTER ISLAND. I liked where the movie was going before the twist. The twist completely ruined the movie for me.
Also, the 2004 remake of THE BIG BOUNCE introduces a "clever" twist that's not in the Elmore Leonard novel or the 1969 film. It's so "clever" it hammered the nails into the coffin of what was already a mediocre film.

For me its The Life of David Gale. The movie takes a stance about something and then when all is revealed it turns to the other side of the argument. I thought the movie was ok before that, but hated it afterwards.

Hancock - It took a movie that actually looked like it was headed someplace original and brought it to a complete stop.
I'll agree with Haute Tension. I loved the movie up to that point and haven't been able to let myself revisit it again cause I hated the twist so much.

I decided to give it a second chance and hated it even more. When you backtrack to everything happened before the twist it just does not make sense.

Spoiler:
I think the movie would have come across as even more generic without that.

the Shutter Island twist didn't harm the story for me but they just took way too much time explaining it and repeating it over and over again that it hurt the impact it should have had.

I know this film has a lot of fans, but the twist in Frailty (2002) completely ruined the movie for me. It threw out a great beginning for a dumb twist, IMO.
Another is the original Saw (2004), which had the most ridiculous twist of any movie I've ever seen.

How about Fallen? It's not the twist itself, per se, but the fact that the filmmakers use a huge cheat to cover it up.

I'll add Deathtrap to the list as the end twist is one too much.

Please no more of the main character dreaming, being dead or insane. Those twists are so predictable because they have been done well a few times and done horribly hundreds of other times.
