The dvd format is over 11 years old , and yet this has still to see a release.I wont even talk about a blu ray , we would be lucky if this even comes to dvd.This year is the 25th anniversary of the movie.If they dont release it this year, it hurts me to say this, but then theyll never release this.I have every single movie from the 80s ive ever wished for, except this.It absolutely amazes me , that we are in the dying years of the dvd format , and still no release for this.

It is odd the films that don't see the light of day. Look at African Queen, an amazing classic that was once thought of as the greatest movie ever made finally, finally, finally sees life on disc. The Legend of Billie Jean was the first hi-def movie I watched on my plasma a few years back on a Saturday afternoon.

for the same reason that a lot of other great cinematic gems are not. money. if the studio doesn't think it will make money why release it? to make the fans happy? ha! like they would ever do a silly thing like that. but id be willing to bet we'll see it on dvd-r sometime in the near future.

It's probably likely that it is tied up in regards to rights. The intent was there for a DVD release, but what happened to it is anybody's guess.

This, Electric Dreams, and Making Michael Jackson's Thriller are really the last movies on my DVD wish list.

There may be more that I cannot recall, but these would be the ones I'd run out and buy on release day.

I'm baffled how something is available on Netflix streaming, but not DVD. Weird.

There's a bunch of movies on services like that which aren't on DVD. What hurts the most is one of my favorites, Gas Pump Girls, part of which was filmed near where I work. I have the old Vestron laserdisc, but MGM owns the movie now and did a new 16x9 transfer which you can 'buy' on Amazon VOD and watch for free (with commercial interruption) on Hulu. There's no disc release in sight however. Same with a few older Paramount titles, including Little Darlings and Looking For Mr. Goodbar.

Just checked that Legend of Billie Jean transfer on Netflix, it's 16x9 also. So now I have a choice of watching the old VHS in 4x3 or a compressed digital transfer in 16x9- but no DVD or Blu-Ray.

Legend of Billie Jean pops up occasionally on the Encore channels, I think I caught it on Encore Action a few months ago... full screen as with everything else on Encore.

Because streaming is the future of movies. Dvds will still be around for a few years, but no one can act shocked or indignant that every little movie isn't being produced in a dying format anymore.


If anyone's interested, Netflix is also streaming Looking For Mr Goodbar and I Ought To Be In Pictures.

Billie Jean is a pretty good despite being a very "80s" movie. I wouldn't mind to see Little Darlings on DVD too.

The studio that holds the rights has to decide if there's enough demand to justify either pressing a title or releasing a DVD-R. Putting it out as a streaming video is a way to test the waters.

Ishtar, the notorious bomb with Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman (which does have a bit of a cult interest) is another one out on streaming video on Hulu but not on DVD yet).
