I've heard varying theories, but what rule of thumb do you folks go by when setting up 'speaker size' in a DD/DTS receiver?
How do I know if my speakers are LARGE or small?

Look at the specs on the speaker. If the frequncy response doesn't go much below 80HZ they are considered "small". If the can go below 50HZ they can be considered "large.

My thinking is that unless you have tower speakers that have built-in subwoofers, you should set the speakers to small and let your stand alone subwoofers handle the low frequencies. The designation "large" and "small" with respect to speakers has nothing to do with physical size--only its ability to handle low frequencies. And by low, I mean lower than 80 Hz (as said in the previous post)
