SNL: The Best of JOHN BELUSHI

I recently watched this DVD, and while I enjoyed what was on it, I am eager for more. I am not an enthusiast for the SNL Season Box sets - too much to wade through for my favorites.

I heard that the old VHS copy of the Best of Belushi contained "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave," where John was a guest overstaying his welcome at someone's house late at night. I remember seeing that on TV, and thought it was a very funny bit, and was sorry to see it wasn't included on the DVD.

I'm just finished reading "Wired," and read that Belushi and company did a skit of "The Honeymooners" as the Bees - I'd love to see that.

The highlight on the DVD, aside from "Little Chocolate Donuts" (which can also be seen on SNL's: Best Commerical Parodies) is when John is commentating on Jane Curtin's Weekend Update, where he goes from calm to hysterics. They featured two on the DVD - I wouldn't mind a whole compilation of just that on one DVD.

They quickly put out a Part II of "Best of Will Ferrell," and wonder if they'll ever put out a Part II for Belushi.

OT: wish they'd also release the best-of for Chevy Chase and Bill Murray.

I can't believe "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave" isn't on the DVD! That was one of my favorite skits of Belushi's.

Sadly I doubt they will release any more "Best of" Belushi DVDs. Mainly because all of his skits have been released in the season sets. Also, the reason they released a Best of Will Ferrell Vol. 2 was because he was (and still is) incredibly popular and they knew they could cash in. Belushi has been dead for nearly 30 years and is hardly a draw any more. I'd like to see some more "Best of"'s from the earlier cast since I have no desire to buy the season sets, all that stuff is before my time. I'd like to buy the seasons from 1990 until now, but that's going to be a VERY VERY long wait at the rate they are releasing them.

Re: SNL: The Best of JOHN BELUSHI

I read somewhere that Lorne Michaels admitted that some omissions from the "Best-Of's" were due to not being able to get the licensing/permission from some aspect of the skit. So, said he, the obvious skits that should be on a respective "Best-Of," but aren't, is not due to an oversight.

But, now that the season sets have been "approved" and released, there should be no reason why they can't take from that and create affordable "Best-Of's" and include stuff they couldn't include before.

Now there's hope.

The three must haves of the entire SNL experience, John Belushi, Dan Ankroyd and Chris Farley. But IMHO John's is a riot. Hard to say which is the best but him and Joe Cocker side-by-side on stage along with the first Blues Bros showing remain my favorites.

Yes, that's on it. That's the one where O.J. Simpson decides he doesn't want to be black anymore.

While I can understand not wanting to wade through so much content, it's really a no brainer picking up the whole sets. A "best of" disc for $10 or a whole season for $20 (routinely on sale for $15 at Target)? Then you can probably Google your skit to find which episode it's in.

Pick up the first few seasons and you get the best of Belushi, the best of Chase, the best of Akroyd and the Best of Bill Murray.

Re: SNL: The Best of JOHN BELUSHI

every season of the original cast is a must own IMO. The first 5 seasons.

Also, there is now a Will Ferrell Best Of VOLUME 3!!! on the market. It's mostly stuff post his regular cast member days. a lot of surprise appearence and guest host stuff. It's alright. Theres a ton of stuff they could have put on vol 3 that wasn't on vol 1& 2 though. most notably his Neil Diamond stuff, and other sketches that feature a recurring character. They did a lot of recurring character stuff on the first 2, but so much of it was great that they could have repeated the same characters on all 3 volumes, with different sketches.

I know its too much to hope for, but I'd really like a Best of Norm Macdonald.

That or a DVD compilation of all the Celebrity Jeopardy skits.

Re: SNL: The Best of JOHN BELUSHI

There's an audition done on Belushi's DVD where, at the end, John is doing some kind of Mexican voice: "what are you talking about? you can't talk to me like THAT"

LOL - was that later used in a skit?

Where in the world is Julia Sweeney's best of ? Sure, she did Pat, but that's no reason to not release her good stuff.
