Been wondering what everyone's favorites have been and WHY. I have gen 1 and have only played gen 2 briefly so cant choose.

Gen 1: red/blue/yellow
Gen 2: gold/silver/crystal
Gen 3: ruby/sapphire/emerald
Gen 4: diamond/pearl/platinum

The originals for me. I played that Game Boy game to death. Psyduck is by far my favorite. Still on my long quest to catch them all. With HeartGold I got many more I needed, but I am still missing 3 Pokemon out of the 493.

Red/Blue

I also played the heck out of Red and Blue. There were a lot of people playing back then and we all had fun talking about the games, exploits, and gameshark cheats. The show was on and fun to watch. Reading, learning, experimenting, and memorizing everything was fun. I knew only 1 person who bought Yellow, and he was a huge Pokemon fan who wore the Ash hat and everything.

Gold was good, but all the extra excitement wasn't there. I didn't care enough that time to really learn about the new Pokemon, breeding system, or any of that.

I played the heck out of Fire Red when it was released.
