I've always been a better-speaker-advocate. Anyone who I have ever given HT advice to, I have told to budget more money towards speakers rather than receivers, cd/dvd players, wires, etc. The noticeable difference between a good and bad pair of speakers is enormous. Another incentive is that speakers don't become out-dated as quickly as other components.
That being said, I just wanted to see what everyone here is currently using. Here's what I have on my limited budget:
fronts: Energy eXL-16's
rears: Energy eXL-16's
center: Infinity CC-3
sub: Energy eXL-S12
------------------
"Man...you don't need a million dollars to do nothing. $hit, take a look at my cousin; he's broke...don't do $hit."
What I'd buy if I had a million dollars.

Hi. Here is a minority opinion. I have and love Infinity. Stay with me, I have good reasons. First, my system that I have built with Infinity speakers matches or exceeds systems that my auiophile friends have built for considerably more money. There have been many occasions that friends have listened to my system and marveled at the sound I am reproducing. One friend has B&W, another has Kilpsch, another has Energy. All agree that my system competes favorably with theirs, and for a fraction of the cost. I start with a Yamaha 2095 receiver, and match it with a Yamaha DVD player. My center channel is an Infinity CC3, my front mains are Overture 2's, the rear effects are RS-4's, and the sub is an Infinity HPS-250. Now, most of these speakers are being phased out for new models. For instance, I just picked up the Overture 2's for $614 for the pair. Yes for the pair. A year ago these retailed for $2,995 for the pair and still sell for $1,995 a pair. U-bid.com has them from time to time and I stole a pair for $307 each, new in box with waranty. The RS-4's are what a lot of people use as front mains. But when I upgraded to the Overtures, I put them in the back for rear effects. (was using RS-3's) These can be had, new,for about $125+ each. The CC-3 can be had for around $200 and the sub for around $300. So for well under $1,500 I built this system, calibrated it with Video Essentials, and it ROCKS!
For that money you get anybody elses entry level system for all six speakers. My argument is that Infinity's top of the line, compared, by price, to everybody elses entry level, comes out far ahead.
Now I'll cover up and let the stones fly!

Except they all have black endcaps.
Mains and center are powered by a 4 x 60 watt amp (I only use 3 channels). I use a 2 x 60 watt amp for the rears. Relatively efficient, they play as loud as I'd ever need them to.

Bassethound,
I have pretty much the same stuff. One suggestion is that you look at the Velodyne CT-12 before you get the subone. It makes a nice combo with our other (same) speakers.

Front: JBL S38
Center: JBL S-Center
Rear: Crap JBL that came with the SC-125 system (will order either another pair of S38 or maybe S26 - haven't decided yet)
Subwoofer: Same crap as above - but I live in a townhouse so not sure when I will upgrade this...neighbors complain - need to keep the peace, but will probably go with JBL sub as well.
Overall, I am very pleased with the speakers (at least the front stage - rear stage needs some help)...

xcheckers,
thanks for the advice. i will certainly check it out. do you notice any gap in the bass between the NHT's and the sub? i would hope the NHT superones have a low enough frequency to cover any gap.

I had the SW2P for a while, it could not keep up with the VT-2's. I was bottoming out the SW2P all the time. So I upgraded to a sub that would over drive the VT's.

Fronts: Maggie MMGs (1.6s on Backorder)
Center: Sound Dynamics C2
Rears : Sound Dynamics RTS-3s
Receiver: Denon AVR1800
Front and center channels powered by Outlaw 750
DVD Player: Toshiba 3109
...When I get the 1.6 Magnepans, my MMGs will become my rear speakers. Next I'll probably split an order of MMGs to replace my center channel with another MMG owner.
Not a lot of bass, but great clarity.

VLAD pioneer and NHT I see we have the same taste. And it is not bragging I asked him about it.

Nice gear, why would you ditch the BPS-400?
That sub rocks!

The only reason I am thinking of upgrading the BPS-400 is because I am wanting to build a subwoofer. The BPS-400 has tremendous punch in the chest power and sounds very good with music as well.It is on the heavy side, weighing in at 110lbs.
