Overkill - "Ironbound"
This album is a MONSTER! Amazing old school metal by a band seriously overlooked. They were always second fiddle to Anthrax in NYC metal bands and most of the 80s generation in general. But this album is awesome. It's old school thrash, so screamo fans will be disappointed to know they can understand what the singer is saying.
It is absolutely incredible how so many 80s thrash bands, whose members are in their mid-40s now, are producing the best albums of their careers. Testament, Megadeth, Slayer and now Overkill are better in middle-age than they were 20 years ago. Incredible.

^same. Killfest 2010 will be great. and yes there are 5 opening bands, and i would not be shocked if the 2 main support bands (vader and god dethroned) each got 40-45 min each

Definitely the best thing they've done since Horrorscope. It surprised me, as their last few have left me completely underwhelmed and it just seemed like they were going through the motions.
Also - check out the new Heathen. Solid, crunchy and another good one.

Always liked Overkill from the beginning, 25 years ago, I bought their debut EP
with Rotten to the Core on it. There have been massive lineup changes through it all
but the guys are still going strong and really haven't changed their style one bit
which is great. I agree with Phodq, the best album since Horrorscope.

I'm a big thrash fan, but I never managed to get into Overkill somehow. I tossed this one on my iPod recently and have been lovin' it. Awesome, heavy stuff.

I really don't know how you can say that Slayer's playing has not improved in 20 years. They are all better players, especially Lombardo, and that in turn makes their craft better.

It doesn't matter if they are better players now, if their song-writing skills went down the toilet!

Re: Slayer hijack in an Overkill thread
I think Dave Lombardo has definitely expanded his drumming and that has benefited Slayer since his return; outside of detuning their guitars beyond E♭ I don't think Jeff or Kerry have really expanded much since Seasons. As the 2003 IGN review of War at the Warfield states, "evil shows its age."

I do agree though, better playing does not mean shit if the songs aren't there. But that's not the case w/ Slayer. The songs off their last 3 albums have been pretty solid. Certainly not up to par w/ "Hell Awaits" and "Reign In Blood" though!
