Von Stroheim's Greed on iTunes
I don't usually buy movies on iTunes, but I was idly flipping through their movie selection and found that they have GREED!! WB has teased us with hints of a DVD release for years, but it's never appeared, not even in the Warner Archive, but it is available for $9.99 on iTunes!
Does this mean a DVD release will happen? They also have other titles that are either OOP or have never been on DVD, like 1984 and Until the End of the World.

Never noticed this before. It's the four hour TCM version, too. I've never purchased a movie off iTunes (rented, but never for keeps), but I might have to consider it with this one until the DVD finally comes along.

Warner has been stringing us along about Greed for years, and now there's zero chance of them releasing it, or anything else. iTunes looks like the only (legal) option.

The best part is they've been using single layer DVD-Rs exclusively. The compression required to stuff Greed onto one of these would probably set some kind of record for major studio shitty product.

I do feel that Greed warrants a proper DVD release (or blu-ray) and it's one of the major silents that Warner owns that hasn't been released. Other major titles include The Big Parade, The Crowd and The Wind.

WB, suck my dick. I've been waiting for this title for years. To replace my VHS copy from TCM. iTunes is for assholes. Until this gets a proper release, I will be looking for it for free.

This is something, but it's not enough. We need "Greed" (and the other WB major silents mentioned above) for real. Seriously.

i am so tired of waiting for this movie to come to dvd that i have given up. i too will purchase it on i tunes and keep it forever on an external hard drive. why not? whats the difference from owning a dvd?
i am a huge fan of this film and the book that it is based on and am glad to see that itunes has the 4 hour re constructed version so you can see all the sub plots that were eliminated from the cut up 2 hour version. you really should purchase this film and stop waiting for the dvd and the endless rumours about it. they may issue a 100 year dvd . that would be 2024. im not waiting...
