Question about Jurassic Park

The first one.

When the main characters arrive at the island, there's all sorts of people there. Lots of support staff in various roles.

Later, when things go bad, the only people on the island are the main characters.

What happened to everyone else?

I believe they all left on the boat back to the mainland.

If I remember correctly, not too long before everything goes to Hell, you see Samuel L. Jackson speaking over like a paging system say something like "The last boat to the mainland leaves in 15 minutes (or something like that) drop what you're doing and leave now" Also, Nedry was seen talking to the guy at the dock and he was asking him to hold the boat for as long as he could because when he was doing test runs of his embryo stealing it took him longer than he first thought it would. If all had gone well, Nedry would have made it to the boat with the the rest of the people who left the island.

I guess Grant, the kids, Hammond and everybody else were going to stay on the island while everybody else left. Why more support people wouldn't have stayed, I don't know.

I think I got that right.

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

I've got a question too: How come the film sidesteps addressing all of the iron-clad, irrefutable creationist science regarding the dinosaurs? Instead they focus on these fringe paleontologist wackos with their "thories". Everyone knows dinos lived 10,000 years ago.

The remaining staff was sent to offsite training to learn Unix.

Ok. if people were leaving because of the storm, why didn't everyone go?

There's a "Creationist Museum" not far from where I live and they actually suggest, complete with a full-size model including saddle, that humans used dinosaurs for transportation and as beasts of burden.

Dinotopia was real? What happened to all the dinosaurs, then?

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

Not for nothing, but a few seconds of Wikipedia is *probably* easier than creating a new thread...

A tropical storm hits the island as most InGen employees leave for the day leaving only Hammond, game warden Robert Muldoon, chief engineer Ray Arnold, and leading computer programmer Dennis Nedry to supervise the park and the visitors.

Remember it's a movie, it's not supposed to make sense.

But in this case, it not only makes sense but was an integral part of the plot. Remember the Wayne Knight character? He was stealing dinosaur DNA for a rival company and was trying to get to the ship before it left, but he got lost because of the storm and ran off the road.

I'm assuming the OP just hasn't seen the movie in a while. Otherwise, she slept through some key scenes.

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

I thought the people on the island turned into the dinosaurs and then went apeshit because of the scene in the beginning where the dude stole the amber from that other dude. Plus, the barbasol thing was a grenade and was used for some sort of storage. That and "Dino.....droppings?"

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

I missed this too, actually, so I don't blame the OP for asking the question. I had to rewatch it with that question in mind to catch it. If you miss a few lines of dialogue you can miss this pretty easily, I think.

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

I know they didn't use real dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. They're some sort of endangered species. The movie used lizards in costumes.

I though a few of them were real? Maybe that was a different movie...

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

All this talk about Jurassic Park has me anxious for the next entry, featuring a mercenary teaching a bunch of talking raptors with DINO-LAZRZ™ how to become an elite fighting squad. For reals.

Re: Question about Jurassic Park

For me, the funniest part of this movie was that when I saw it opening night I was the only person who recognized Samuel L. Jackson.
