Holy shit, I thought Valentine's Day would be the one to take Avatar down.

It's super bowl weekend. I think it's traditionally pretty weak for films that skew male.

Any numbers for Frozen? I saw it earlier today and loved it. Surprising coming from the director of Hatchet.

Jim Cameron thinks Avatar will hit $2.5b worldwide, and $3b worldwide were it not for Alice in Wonderland taking away 3-D screens when it arrives. Thoughts?

I'm not surprised that Dear John beat Avatar. At work tonight, a group of 15 girls came in to get sandwiches and I overheard a couple of them talking about the movie. They sounded relieved that something right up their alley was in theaters.

The Notebook is to be blamed (it was excessively overused as a promotional tagline for the movie)

So for box office superiority, a sci-fi film (Lost in Space - yes, you can tag it sci-fi) defeated Cameron's chick-flick (Titanic), and a chick-flick (Dear John) defeated Cameron's sci-fi film (Avatar). Makes sense.

big screen adaptation of the tv series starring Judd Hirsch and Jere Burns. some say it was an odd idea adapting this particular series and i don't think Seyfried has the comedy chops to take on the Burns role, but when the Hollywood well runs dry...

I remember that show and the theme song and opening way too well for some reason.
I almost hadn't even heard of this movie until this thread.

I actually see Dear John getting a minor spike in ticket sales for it's late afternoon shows today (aka when the SuperBowl is on TV). I thought The Wolf Man might take down Avatar.
Avatar has already made its money, so it can now digress. While I have no plans to see the movie, I do think Amanda Seyfried is a talented actress and am happy to see her bounce back after the disaster that was Jennifer's Body.
