I know which players can play VCD. If it has support for VCD, does it also include support for SVCD?

I don't believe a DVD player will support SVCD unless it is designed to. I believe the Apex is supposed to be SVCD compatible, but I have never had one to try in it. SVCD is such an Asian thing that I doubt many US players will bother to support it. VCD 2.0 is about as far as the technology got in the US.

Is SVCD equivalent to what SVHS is to VHS? Better quality video and audio?

SVCD uses MPEG 2 instead of 1, and I believe it might use a multi-channel surround format. But I could be wrong on that one

Today, I was dusting my Toshiba SD1200 and noticed something when the sun was shining on the front of it. It has SVCD on the front display, but it wasn't lit up. So I guess the SD1200 does support SVCD discs, but don't hold me to that!
