I recently purchased an open box model of this reciever. Everything was working fine until recently. Now everytime I play a source through it, whether it be DVD, radio, video game console, vcr etc., at a certain point in the volume level the reciever automatically shuts off. It does not happen when I use headphones though. I currently only have two front speakers hooked up. I am not sure if this is something I can resolve or whether I need to take it in for service. I am using Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble IV speakers. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

This receiver has a very sensitive speaker overload. If one little tiny wire is touching the wrong thing the receiver will shut off. Since this doesn't happen with headphones it might very well be the case. Rewire the speakers being very careful there are no unruly wires touching the opposite post.

Thanks for the tip Jim. You are probably right. I did not strip the wire very well initially and I have been fiddling around with it both before and after I got this new reciever, so it is quite probable that a certain wire is making contact where it should not. I am eventually going to hook up my fronts as well as my rears and center with new wire and I will make sure I do it properly next time.
