Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

Thanks for the heads up! Hoping to hold off until next Barnes & Noble grab to catch remaining marketplace items but good to know information (still regret not grabbing Straw Dogs last B&N sale).

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

Never know how fast the Criterions sell-out after going OOP. If you really want one of them, you may want to pounce before they're gone.

I've been wanting Le Corbeau, but the Six Feet Under DOTD on Amazon is eating much of my DVD budget for the month.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

These prices turn out to be pretty damn good, as it is, and, yes, RequiemX, is correct, Criterions that are announced as OOP often disappear form stocks soon after the announcement. The rights of Studio Canal are now controlled by Lionsgate, and God knows they can't do a comparable job to the work of Criterion, so many of these will remain the definitive editions.

I plan to buy several! And it will hurt the wallet, no doubt, but, down the road, I know I won't regret it. If anyone knows of better prices happening now do share...

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

I just quickly picked up Trafic (I had been waiting for a BD edition) from Buy.com. Not the price I was hoping for, but I'd rather pay $28 now than a ton later. I'd have picked up from the Criterion store, but I couldn't think of anything else to combine with free shipping.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

These are not announced as OOP, but going OOP in March. We should have a couple weeks to pick them up, and perhaps another B&N sale.

Well, hopefully that means some of the out of stock items at Criterion's site will be available again because some of these titles are already on back order.

As for the B&N sale, unless someone has hard information that it is indeed, definitely coming this month or early March, then fine, but otherwise you could miss it out sitting with your fingers crossed for this sale to happen and waiting.

^ Agreed as to the likelihood of a bn sale: don't count on it.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

They have been rereleasing many of the ones that theyve taken the rights from criterion. Such as Ran and contempt and they are likely to release these as well but, of course, not as criterions which I want. Although there are some criterions like alphaville which may see an improvement as a rerelease.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

Anyone else having trouble trying to order Grand Illusion from Criterion? I keep getting an error message when I click Add to Cart.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

This sale is good for the $19.95 titles, so I picked up 4 of the essential Art house titles which I was waiting on before as I wasn't sure if Criterion would release them as full blown Criterions:

Gervaise (Essential Art House edition)
Le jour se lève (Essential Art House edition)
Last Holiday (Essential Art House edition)
Mayerling (Essential Art House edition)

I tried it. I pressed the green + button, then the page blinked and did not move except get rid of the + button. I pressed the "backorder" button and it added it to cart. Hopefully it will come back in stock...

Edit: oh, green + button is the "add to wishlist" feature. Pressing "bockorder" adds it to your cart. You can try and check out with it, but you won't be charged until when and if it comes back in stock and ships to you.

They've said that they will get more copies and will honor all orders through the end of March.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

Anyone have a link to this? All I'm seeing are artwork, clothing and mugs for sale at Criterion.com.

Re: OOP Sale at Criterion Store!

They've got their site back up and running. I ordered the four JAE titles, plus a mug for free shipping. All were 41 cents cheaper than they would be during the 25% off sale, so no complaints.
