Help! Security sticker residue stuck on one of my DVD's

Recently, I popped open my 24 season 7 set and discovered that some of the residue from the security sticker that I removed months ago got stuck on the bottom of one of the discs.

I tried using alcohol wipes and disc cleaner, but nothing seems to get the stuff off. I don't want to use my fingers to scratch it off without damaging the disc. Tried putting it in and some of the episodes/content plays okay, but I did notice that it starts to get jerky and pixilated at certain points, which isn't good.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Should I take it to a store and pay $2 for them to clean the disc? I tried doing that a few months ago for a DVD that was scratched and it damaged the disc permanently.

This technique is perhaps risky, especially now that you've applied chemicals to it (who knows how it has changed), but I find the best remover of that stuff is the stickers themselves. When some remains on a case, I stick the still-sticky part of the sticker to it and the sticker will usually pick it back up.

WD-40 works great.

Goo gone or wd-40 are what I would do, but I wonder if boiling it would work.

Picked up Goo Gone for $5 last week at Office Max and it worked like a charm. The sticky residue was off the disc with 1 wipe and I managed to clean up the left over crap on the DVD case as well. And yes, the DVD plays just fine.

Thanks for the suggestion

Congrats! Although how have you been on this forum for 8 years without knowing about the wonders of goo gone?

I've found this technique works on removing ingerprints and dustmites as well.
