Shrek Forever After: the Final Chapter in IMAX 3D 5/21/10

yes, finally this will be the last one of the series. I actually quite enjoyed the first one, 2 was meh, the 3rd was just awful and this one could be worse. I saw the Trailer during Avatar

The 1st film has not held up well and isn't that great now. the 2nd sucked, 3rd sucked pretty hard I hear. I could only imagine that this one will be worse?

All three Shrek movies have been crap so far, no doubt this will be more of the same. I thought the Shrek the Halls special was actually really good though, maybe the shorter running time helped?

Yeah, I enjoyed the first one, but never feel the urge to watch it again. Second one was mediocre, third one looked horrid so I've skipped it so far. I liked Shrek the Halls, but I'm a sucker for Christmas stuff.

Man, a lot of hate for Shrek. I enjoy 'em, so I'll give this a go...

I only really enjoyed the second film - will give the fourth film a chance - it's my understanding that the 3D is not an IMAX exclusive, but is also a REAL-D standard theatre release as well.

Any idea on why all the ads have dropped the title, "Shrek Forever After" and gone with "Shrek-The Final Chapter"?

Create hype over the fact that it's the "ZOMG LAST MOVIE", thus trying to generate excitement. It's a must-avoid for me, but the families will flock to it.

I liked the first and second but hated the third. I also liked the christmas special. This one looks enjoyable. Hopefully it turns out nothing like the third.

Haven't they already greenlit the next one?

Re: Shrek Forever After: the Final Chapter in IMAX 3D 5/21/10

I enjoyed the first Shrek the first time I saw it but with each viewing it got worse and worse. The second movie was entertaining the first time, the thrid sucked. I will not be seeing #4.

They keep talking about a Puss 'n' Boots movie but it's been too long since it was announced (2002?) and I have lost all interest.

Exactly. I really have no interest in these movies but having a 7 year old ensures I'll wind up seeing them. I took my son to a 5pm showing tonight. I thought it was nothing special but he enjoyed it.

Re: Shrek Forever After: the Final Chapter in IMAX 3D 5/21/10

This last installment of the Shrek franchise does take forever to get going, with most of the film being moribund until Puss-not-in-boots finally shows up, but I think it ends up better than it started (being an alternative version of what-if Shrek and Fiona never met or hooked up. Having Rumpelstiltskin as the villain got tiresome in the first act, not a good sign. But it's a little more ambitious than the previous film (which wasn't good) in some ways, but in other ways, it feels cramped. But without Donkey or Puss, this film would have been truly a dud, as it is, it's a semi-dud.

I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

I never loved the first shrek or 2nd one but always enjoyed them including 3. Looking forward to seeing this one, since I went to Dreamworks while they were working on this and How to Train your Dragon and it was neat seeing all the concept artwork on the walls and rough shots I seen, so it will be neat to see the final product

Re: Shrek Forever After: the Final Chapter in IMAX 3D 5/21/10

Saw this yesterday at a fairly full theater in just regular 2D. I thought it was more enjoyable then the 3rd movie, but not nearly as good as the first two. The movie started off pretty slow to me, but picked up steam when Shrek finally signs Rumpelstiltskin's deal. Puss in the Boots was probably the best part of the movie. Although technically, regarding the plot:

Spoiler:
If Shrek doesn't save Fionna, shouldn't Prince Charming have done it then?

That said, it was definitely a story that didn't really need to be told and could have done without. Although I feel that Toy Story 3 looks like that way too by the trailers.

Yup, I would agree with you here. I felt the 4th movie was quite amusing in spots, and Puss stole every scene he was in. In regards to the 3rd movie, I remember when I first saw it, thinking it was absolute garbage. But after seeing it a few more times on DVD, it grows on you (especially the piece where "9 Crimes" is played in the background).

I saw this, and it wasn't all bad. It's been a while since I've seen the second, but I'd say this is either as good or a bit worse. All the other movies are far superior to the third, which I really don't remember a single frame of.

An unoffensive but superfluous extension to the franchise. Nothing here is really annoyingly bad like much of part 3 was, but nothing really engaged me either.

^ I agree. At points the emtions felt very mainpulated and shmaltzy, more adult geared than to the kids IMO. I liked the 3D effects.

For those who have seen it, is the movie worth seeing in 3D or can I just wait until the dvd?

I went and saw it on Saturday with the family. I thought it was a pleasant enough time waster and I'll agree with everyone else that the parts with Puss In Boots were definitely the best parts. The kids enjoyed it so I guess that's all that really mattered to me.

Wait for the DVD and save your movie dollars for "The Expendables".

Puss stole the show but Donkey had the best line of the movie IMO "You know what would improve morale around here? Flip flop Fridays."

Re: Shrek Forever After: the Final Chapter in IMAX 3D 5/21/10

I saw Shrek 4 today and think it's the best of the sequels. (Saw it in IMAX 3D to boot). And I think this was the most "Pixar"-styled movie in the franchise in that it focused on the characters and the story a lot more than any of the other Shrek movies and totally avoided soon-to-be-dated topical humor (and no groan-inducing fart gags either).

(BTW, I don't understand the hate for part 3 and 4. I think the weakest link in the Shrek franchise is part 2 which, aside from Puss-in-Boots, is not a very good movie. It makes me wonder if people who slam the Shrek movies even saw them all.)

I saw it and really liked it. Despite a slow start, it redeems the series from the disastrous third outing.
