First Oprah Winfrey, now Tyra Banks! If Ellen DeGeneres leaves her talk show, we just don't know what we'll do.
Tyra Banks tells People she's "been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years" but that "The Tyra Show" will be off the airwaves at the end of the 2010 season.
After the show ends, Tyra wants to focus on Bankable Studios, a New York-based film production company. A source close to Tyra told People, "With Oprah's big announcement this year, I think that gave Tyra the confidence to get out there and follow her longtime dream of film producing."
There is no word on whether Tyra will pursue her own network, like Oprah is doing, but we think it's safe to say that within the next five years, Oprah Winfrey and Tyra Banks will rule the entire known universe.

How many actors or in this case former actor have started a successful production companies? I can't even think of 5 right now.
I know FOX gave Kiefer Sutherland a production deal to start his own company, and he's 10 times more successful than Tyra, but I've heard nothing of any projects he's done outside of 24.

I don't know about that. Sutherland has had "24" bring him back from essentially a dead career. Before that he had some success in films, but Banks was a highly successful model, then created "Top Model" before winning daytime Emmy's for her talk show. Forbes named her the top highest grossing female in primetime television, as well.
So it depends on how you term "success," I guess.

But, going back to Tyra. Yeah she can start her own production company, but you still need a studio or network to finance the projects.

This is perfect and I agree with you completely. I wasn't expecting all this hate as if Tyra stole your paycheck. I haven't watched her show since it moved to the CW network, but she had some very creative show topics that no one's ever done before (which is pretty good considering how long talk shows have been popular and the fact that you have Maury doing babydaddy shows 90% of the time). There were some episodes that were for women only that I couldn't relate to at all, but many of them were somewhat balanced.

My biggest criticism of hers is often pointed out by O&A - she always turns every situation to a story about herself. There'll be a kid on the show with cancer and she'll talk about how she had to overcome similar challenges, like being too tall in the 5th grade.
