Daily Show and Colbert in HD
Strong rumours that the shows will both be in HD when they return in January.
I've been following this thread on avsforum.

NEP Broadcasting chooses Cobalt Digital for ‘Daily Show,’ ‘Colbert Report’ HD transition
http://broadcastengineering.com/prod...ansition-1117/
NEP Broadcasting has selected the Cobalt Digital line of terminal gear for the HD transition of the “Colbert Report” and “Daily Show” studios.
“We are frame-synching, color-correcting, embedding and de-embedding dozens of signals,” said George Hoover, CTO of NEP Broadcasting. The Cobalt openGear products, used with the DashBoard control and monitoring software and Cobalt OGCP-9000 remote-control panels, will enable NEP Broadcasting to control all video- and audio-processing under a common scheme, he added.
When the Cobalt equipment was installed, the studio was still shooting in SD. The downconverters were serving as distribution amplifiers, and the Cobalt 9033 A-to-D cards in the videotape room were taking SD component output from DVD players and tape decks and feeding the switcher in SD.
As the cameras switch over to HD, Cobalt 9821 downconverters will allow the studios to monitor their HD camera returns on SD monitors. For the main program out, the Cobalt 9822 downconverters provide the highest possible downconversion quality.

There was a thread earlier this year talking about TDS/Colbert in HD.
Edit: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tv-talk/547...entral-hd.html
At that time, they stated it would "take all year" to transition to HD because they would only do the studio upgrades during their off-weeks.
I'm glad it's finally happening.

Maybe when they make the switch, they can finally start sending the proper first-air vs. rerun information to whatever data source that Tivo uses.

Comedy Central is terrible about that. The shows also regularly spill over into other timeslots. I just have manual recordings set Monday-Thursday.

There is, however, a nice work around that uses Wishlists (on TiVo) or Keyword searches (on DirecTV).

I've been using this method for months now and it works perfectly.

What chew said - Works like a dream. I love the search
No more problems with recording 4-5 episodes per day.
I do find that the thurdsay Stewart which records at 1030 runs into my colbert recording. It's my only conflict night. Being on the West Coast I get both shows at 8pm and 830 which is nice.

Re: Daily Show and Colbert in HD
Thank goodness... besides South Park and (sporadically, at best) movies... did Comedy Central have ANY of their content in HD?
The only HD channel I can think of that is more barren of content is G4 (which I heard is also going HD with Attack of the Show/X-Play sometime in 2010).

I don't know if they do it for really old episodes, but i was watching a repeat of south park (the one where cartman fakes torrettes), and they actually cropped the full screen image into a 1:78 screen, instead of airing it naturally in 4x3 (which is what they do for all other non hd programing
