I do love me some Kick-Ass. And I don't want to just fall in with the hype. I truly love when there is a book out there that keeps me interested and has some type of effect on me. That said, I still LOVE The Walking Dead.

Warren Ellis should stick to creator-owned.

Supergod is great.

No Hero was fantastic.

Criminal is probably one of the best books of the decade.

Although the #1 book of the decade is Y: The Last Man for me.

I love Brubaker, but I read the first Criminal trade and it didn't grab me, so I didn't pick anymore of them up...until the Omni came out, I have continued to hear nothing but great stuff and it wasn't that expensive, so I picked it up and I'm gonna give it another try...

My vote for best of the decade still goes to Y: the last man too, that and Astonishing X-men brought me back to comics after a 10+ leave...now I spend $200/month looking for that same high in something else...

I have never read any of the Walking Dead, after i get caught up in my reading, i am going to pick up some of those trades...

Re: What`s better Kick-ASS or the Boys?

I haven't read Kick-ASS at all yet, but I have read the first The Boys: Definitive Edition and it was pretty good. I enjoyed the storyline OK, but somewhat like a Kevin Smith movie, it is so heavily filled with "Dick & Fart Joke" humor it gets to be a bit much. I have no problem with vulgar humor but it laid on so thick in The Boys you would think you are back in junior high.

As others have said, somewhat off topic, Brubaker's Criminal & Y: The Last Man are both superior to The Boys in my opinion by leaps and bounds.

Re: What`s better Kick-ASS or the Boys?

Astonishing X-men was just "tepid" for me. I was a long-time X-men reader and I thought that he was going to take things in a new direction, but instead he just did a total retread of all the themes, storylines, and characterizations that we've seen over the past 40 years. The only thing that saved the book from total mediocrity was the humor and the fantastic artwork.

Compared to there rest of the X-men books... and the franchise in general over the past 20 years, Whedon was definitely one of the better writers out there.

What I love about Brubaker is that every time I read one of his comics again, I always find something new. A hidden plot point, a new characterization that was a quick aside before, and an illumination of the themes and plot. He's really mastered the art of restraint when it comes to writing comics.

I can't fault him though for his horrid work on X-men. Even major revamps can't save that book... because that's all the book has become. All it does is revamp the series every few years.

There is only one answer for this question and all have gotten it wrong.

And The Boys is 37 times better than Kick-Ass.

GOD LAND > THE BOYS > KICK-ASS

Those are the only current trades that I read (and Marvel's old dude superhero DESTROYER which already ended). I like this thread!

Re: What`s better Kick-ASS or the Boys?

I didn't much care for The Boys. It's not a bad comic, but it felt like it was trying too hard to be edgy. It didn't feel as natural as Preacher did. Kick-Ass is fun, but didn't feel like there was any substance there (I'm not current on this though).

I would say Fables is the best series being written, but I'm a trade and some issues behind, so I don't know how things are after the main arc has been wrapped up. It should be on any short-list though.

The Boys is excellent when it focuses on the evil Justice League group...when it follows other storylines, it's just okay

Unless it's Red Son or Wanted, practically ANYTHING >>> a Millar comic.

"Saviour" and and his run on "Swamp Thing" were pretty good, too. His Authority run might have been a winner, too, had Quitely stuck around and DC (Levitz?) would have left it the fuck alone.

("Saviour" was a black and white series from, I believe, Trident, that focused on the Antichrist as a superhero. Unfortunately, it was never completed.)
