Yay, TCM and IFC HD now availible
sorry if there are already threads on this, but this past weekend i've been in heaven . It seems that if the movie is shown in widescreen on TCM, its going to be in HD, so my guess is when 30 days of Oscar comes up in Feb, the DVR will def fill up. I'm watching "the Proposition" on IFC HD, and it looks stunning (and is pretty grusome too) in HD.
Oh and BTW, I have Comcast, and its 890 for TCM and 893 for IFC.

they showed the Proposition in 16x9, although isn't the OAR for that movie 2:35? Watched Rear Window last night. It looked stunning

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Dec. 1, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today that DIRECTV 12 was shipped Nov. 25 from Boeing's satellite manufacturing facility in El Segundo to the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch facility in Kazakhstan. Upon arrival, the satellite will undergo final preparations for a December launch aboard an International Launch Services Proton/Breeze M rocket.
...The new satellite will increase DIRECTV's high-definition (HD) capacity by 50 percent, and when combined with the DIRECTV 10 and 11 satellites that launched in 2007 and 2008, will enable DIRECTV to deliver 200 national and 1,500 local HDTV channels to millions of U.S. households.

I hate that HD versions of channels are stretching content to make it "HD" so that the average viewer isn't pissed that his new 50 inch TV is "missing" the picture. HBO is terrible for this because some older movies will be OAR and some new films will be stretched to 16x9.

I noticed this a couple weeks ago and was so happy. TCM finally! No more small box in a box picture which is really nice.
IFC looks like crap though.

Must be regional. I get CNNHD and HDNET, but no TMCHD, IFCHD or SpikeHD.

It is, I've had these channels for a few months. Your best bet is to subscribe to your local market's provider thread on AVS forum. Even then, some areas take longer to get new channels than others in the same market.
