If you live in the Detroit area it looks like this isn't airing until 4AM, much like what happened with Parks and Recreation a few weeks ago. So adjust your DVRs.

as much as i enjoy this show, if it wasnt for ken jeong i wouldnt be able to enjoy this show that much more. he is gold in everything he appears in!

i feel like an idiot. i just realized that Annie is also Trudy from Mad Men.. no wonder she looked so familiar to me.

I totally disagree. I've never found him funny (film work included) and found him to be the weakest link among this show's cast. However, this was the first time I didn't find him totally grating. So maybe he's finally finding his niche.

Yeah, this episode was great; I was wondering where I heard that song before and once I heard the rat's name, Fivel, I remembered it was from An American Tail when Fivel's all alone. Sweet montage with the "Here's brownies!" ending.

Re: Community -- "Environmental Science" -- 11/19/09

in watching this last night, it became obvious that this show is pretty formulaic:

1) Something happens to the group
2) Everyone asks Jeff for help with that something
3) Jeff does something selfish as he is trying to help the group
4) The group gets mad at Jeff for doing that selfish thing
5) He then finds a way to fix it and all is well

oh, and Pierce offers to help someone with something. They don't want his help at first, and through the entire process of helping they question his methods. But at the end, what he did actually helped.

All that said, i LOVE the show and its formula.

this episode was great, but it was brought to another level for me with the "Somewhere Out There" montage. When I was in college, if i was ever coerced into singing karaoke, i would sing "somewhere out there" as a duet with a buddy of mine. Never failed to entertain - crowd always loved it. So that ending had special meaning for me.

Re: Community -- "Environmental Science" -- 11/19/09

Oh come on, you know exactly what i meant. The catalyst for the formula changes, but the formula itself stays the same.

this week it was the assignment of a 20-page essay. Before it was the reliance on Jeff to make Annie's party "cool". And again, it was Annie needing Jeff's help for the debate. And yet again, it was Jeff coming to Britta's aid in the cheating scandal.

Like i said, i don't have a problem with it, but basically all the episodes boil down to Jeff doing something selfish then redeeming himself at the end.

This is by far my favorite new show of the season, and one of the few shows i watch the same day it airs. Was just making an observation.

Re: Community -- "Environmental Science" -- 11/19/09

Actually, this week is wasn't Jeff being selfish. He really wanted the group not have to a 20 page eassy from hell but Chang would only let him off the hook. The group just assumed he was being selfish because Jeff didn't want to reveal that Chang was having marriage issues to them.

In other words, Jeff may be an ass or an asshat but he has some moral value in him.

Re: Community -- "Environmental Science" -- 11/19/09

I agree - he absolutely has moral value. thus the "he finds a way to fix it and all is well in the end" part.

but I disagree with your statement about this episode - he was selfish at first. He agreed to go out with Chang even after Chang told him it would only be him getting the pass on the essay. He could have fought for the group right then and there and did not.

I love this show as well. I've become aware of the formula and I like it, too. The different classes that the characters have aside from spanish allows for them to pair up in little side stories that are also fun. I'm not a fan of Senor Chang either, but I love the Dean.

Chang is the weak link in this chain. I'm not a fan.

I hope that next season they get a new "class" and teacher to form a study group around.

The Fivel/"Somewhere Out There" story was killing me the whole time.

I'm tired of Senor Chang, too.

This is the first week I've watched it since it moved to it's new time slot (I was trying to give Flash Forward a shot.) So glad to be back to this show. It's just as good as I remembered...even better, actually. It has shown great improvement and I loved it right off the bat.

I really liked the "Green Day" version of Somewhere Out There towards the end of the episode. They should make a decent recording of that.

I guess.. a little bit of both.

Alison Brie.

Despite my advances, me and bluetoast remain just friends...
