Friday Night Lights -- "After the Fall" -- 11/04/09 (Directv)

Friday Night Lights

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

The Lions gain a star player after a West Dillon controversy; Eric tries to pick up his team's spirits; Tami makes a decision that ruffles feathers; Matt has a run-in with a local artist; and Riggins finds a new place to live.

Really looking forward to seeing how they follow up the forfeit.

I still disagree with anyone who thought it was out of character for JD to evolve into a dick. He's QB1 now, his head coach is his personal coach, he's instantly the most popular guy now at West Dillon and he's got a major chip on his shoulder from last season's playoff game.

I agree with you. It might have been out of character last season, but quite a bit of time has elapsed since then. He was a just a freshman last year in a new school. I dont think it's a stretch to think he would have changed into a prick by his sophomore year.

Just to give you an idea on how far ahead they are filming this show. I just read that they start production on episode 9 tomorrow. It's a 15 day shoot.

And episode 9 will be the first one bck after a 3-5 week 'break' in the airing schedule. No back-to-back filming for both seasons?

Your actually correct. It's the 1st episode back after the Holidays and New Year. It's actually a little less than 4 weeks. Yeah I don't think they will film back to back seasons.

For me, it wasn't that much of a stretch for him to act like a little fuckstick. The problem is that it was just one more thing on top of the other contrived efforts to make Dillon come across like the big bad villians and East Dillon the "good guys." If it had been JUST the JD acting like an asshole thing, I doubt many would have had an issue.

Another great episode, if somewhat predictable.

Loved Mike Leach and the pirate talk.

Yep.

Also, with the town split, how can Dillon still be this powerhouse? I don't necessarily expect them to be as pathetic as East Dillon, but I can't imagine that they could be a contender for state. Granted, they addressed some of that with the player last night (and of course, he's a good kid ).

at Mike Leach's cameo.

I thought the kid playing Luke did an absolutely incredible job. He could be a superb new addition. The way he begged, total desperation, half crying, then turned around to apologize for lying, then was the first one there for the special practice, burning his Panthers jersey. Just awesome.

The thing with Coach knowing about the fake address was interesting, showing that maybe he's not always the straightest arrow...

He's definitely not a straight arrow. He doesn't personally cross the line, but he allows the others to do it for him. I'm sure everyone remembers VooDoo?

I'm confused... Where did Luke go to school last year?

Kind of stupid how everybody is pissed off about Luke getting moved to East Dillon, but nobody cared about Coach getting shoved out? I would imagine most of the team (and their parents) would have been screaming about a move like that, given how much of a positive influence he has on the kids.

Another thing I was wondering...if East Dillon didn't have a football team at least the last few years, were the kids that went there just SOL if they wanted to play football?

And I'm sure this cam up last year, but is there no open enrollment in Texas?

East Dillon didn't exist - it was closed.

I mentioned my problems buying Coach getting forced out at the end of last season after winning a state title and being runner-up in 2 out of 3 years. I can't imagine that's very common for small town football teams in Texas. I didn't care how rich the evil father is; I just couldn't buy it.

The local school here last year split and the football team still had a deep run into the playoffs. Unlike on the show they kept the Sr class together, but they're still a top seed this year as well. The new school wasn't East Dillon bad, but I don't think they won a game. This year they made the playoffs.

The differences between the two football teams I can buy, the fact that East Dillon looks like an inner-city school is stretching it. I was waiting for "Gangsta's Paradise" to kick on when Julie was walking down the hall.

Tammy pwning McCoy was great.

Mike Leach and pirates is a joke that will probably be lost on 99% of the audience

No offense but Illinois HS football ain't Texas HS football.

Yeah - I love how small town Dillon developed a 'hood.'

Yeah where were all the "gangstas" at the old school? Did they just build a whole bunch of government subsidized housing in the offseason and bus in the residents from the city?

I was looking for Bodie and Poot to come walking up with Wallace Vince when Coach Taylor was talking to his mom.

So we are supposed to believe all of these kids now at East Dillon went to Dillon last year? Seems far fetched, but I guess it's just a plot device. Like a guidance councilor becoming principal.

Why didn't Coach recognize Mike Leach, headcoach of Texas Tech?

Why stunt cast if he wasn't playing himself?

Mack Brown and Rick Barnes weren't playing themselves when they appeared.

Was Barnes playing a coach or agent? Mack was roughly playing the equivalent of the U of Texas head coach in the FNL universe.

I just wondered why Leach wasn't also playing another Texas-based college football headcoach who Coach Taylor would have recognized, but still walked away with the crazy advice with the sword-swinging.

F'in Mike Leach. That guy is just plain nuts. Always good for a quote though.
