DVDs you would have bought but are now OOP?

Have you ever came across a title you would have bought on DVD but, for whatever reason, it just never came to your attention when it was released and you never thought about the movie while it was out. Then, one day, you go to check IMDB or some fan site or whatever and you discover the movie you fondly remember from days of yore WAS released on DVD...only it's out of print and commanding huge amounts of cash on secondary seller sites?

My recent movie was Timerider. On Movie Talk on this site people have been discussing movies they enjoyed as a kid and somebody posted a poster for that movie and I recalled I enjoyed that as a kid myself. And it completely sucks that it is out of print now.

(Edited to correct the title...NOT Timecop!)

TIMECOP with JCVD? You can get used ones on Amazon for 99 cents and it's also still available new.

And it's pan 'n' scan. I have the R4 for the correct aspect ratio and anamorphic. It's still freely available at Aussie etailers such as http://www.ezydvd.com.au/.

I was aware of it, but just didn't make the effort to pick up the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull steelbook. When the movie itself isn't so hot, but I'd still like to have it as part of a collection, then extras like as steelbook or other store exclusives help make it worth my while. I now keep my eyes open at the used shops for it.

Kinda the same with X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Midnight Hour, Anchor Bay version. By the time I realized this movie was the family classic we watched every Halloween on tv it was already worth over $100.

FLCL (Fooly Cooly). I used to watch this on [adultswim] years ago and never realized what it was called. By the time I figured out the name it was OOP.

Oh, and to answer the OP's question: Luc Besson's The Big Blue. Just put it off over and over and over, even passed on getting it as a freebie during Pepsi's point program.

Same here, I used to love that show but always held off on buying it. Guess I waited too long... The only releases that really come to mind are the Directors Cut of Natural Born Killers and the Uncut TV version of HALLOWEEN, as well as the Directors Cut of Army of Darkness.

Re: DVDs you would have bought but are now OOP?

FLCL was reprinted in a very nice boxset last year or so, it's also out of print too, but it might make the older editions easier to find.

Based on the OP's requisite I've been a victim of this quite a few times, primarily due (except for Beastmaster) to the fact that I wasn't aware of the films (or releases) until too late.

But most of the cases it was simply due to holding off until too long ...

Gargoyles
Bio-Hunter
Black Tight Killers
Tampopo
Innocence (Ghost in the Shell 2) - Limited Edition Bassett Hound music box

Tokyo Olympiad
Tampopo

I'm sure there are many more. Sometimes I think the studios believe we are all Bernie Madoff.

This just came back in print...in fact, in an all new anamorphic release from Warner themselves....
