Trauma -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 9/28/09
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Starring:
Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher, Friday Night Lights)
Anastasia Griffith (Damages)
Cliff Curtis (Training Day, Live Free or Die Hard)
Anyone going to give this a try? The Trailer looked pretty good. I read the Pilot reportedly costed over $4M. It looks more like an action-oriented EMT drama than a standard Medical Procedural.

Re: Trauma -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 9/28/09
ok that just sucked..
and I tend to be really forgiving for shows but it was like 3 hours of them running around a freeway over pass (well ok it felt like 3) putting bandages on people.. Then an entire fuel tanker truck blows up, as in something that would pretty much wipe out a city block, but they were able to run like 20 feet away so they were all fine!
Then they went right back to putting bandages on people for another 2 hours
just a boring show.. No wonder NBC is crap in the ratings.. Fear this is a one and done show for me.. Errr ok maybe it one more ep being I really do like to give new shows a chance but this ep sucked..

I saw it, thought it was a bit much with the emotional extremes the EMT's exhibit. I do like the grittier aspect of the show and am looking forward to next week.

That guy probably changed his name since he does not look like a Cliff Curtis.

I actually couldn't get to sleep so I decided to watch this...and it was just crap. The actors had no charisma. The writing was hilarious. The special effects were crap. Just all around garbage. I still miss Third Watch.

Special Effects?
They did blow up the tanker truck. What other effects? I haven't seen the episode yet.

There was the mid-air helicopter crash in the opening.
I had to laugh though when everything was exploding they would just cut to the different actors going, "Ahh!" "Ohh!" "AHHHHHH!" "Nooooo!" for what seemed like entirely too long.

I actually enjoyed this for what it was: trashy TV. I didn't expect sharp dialogue or a layered plot. It's from the co-writer of the classic 1993 hit Posse -- my expectations were in check.

The copter crash took me by surprise. I liked the suddenness of it.
Cliff Curtis?!?
Checked IMDB : He's of New Zealand Maori descent. He looks Indian.
I thought he was the bad guy in 'True Lies', but that was Art Malik (thanx again IMDB).

Cliff Curtis's character was terrible. Just the cliche "daredevil" and some of the dialogue.
One thing that no one has pointed that the blonde with the broken arm (she was the ex-wife from Life) is actually the Mayor of San Francisco's wife.
Favoritism?

BOOOOORRRRINNNNGG. I'm watching now and there's nothing special about this show. I mean there's nothing that sets this show apart from any other shows like it.

Alright I watched this last night and thought it was so-so at best.
The think the Pilot used more Special Effects than character development. Derek Luke isn't a bad actor, but I thought for him being the lead of this show, I thought the story didn't really get me to care about him or his family life.
Cliff Curtis' character "Rabbit" is a horrible character. So cliched and uninspired. The final scene were he's driving recklessly through the streets of SF and smashes into Buddy Garrity's car and chops off his finger and he doesn't even get arrested or reprimanded was ridiculous.
I like Anastasia Griffith on Damages, but I thought her Nancy character was pretty cliched as well. A blonde hotty trying to fit in with the guys and also having Daddy issues.
I'll give it another whirl on Monday to see if I want to commit to however long NBC sticks with it.

Not good. Not horrible.
I'm going to give it another chance because I think it suffered from what most
pilots suffer from: tries to get everything crammed into 40 min and ends up coming off way over the top.
I'm also going to give it another chance because Peter Berg is behind it and
he's given a few of the oldies but goodies from FNL a role. Not only Buddy Garrity, but Herc as well.
It was directed by another FNL alum, Jeffery Reiner.
Obviously, 'Rabbit' will need to come down a peg or two... his 'ride 'em cowboy' attitude will only last so long and then it's going to get real old.
