R.I.P. - Dick "Swamp Thing" Durock

SOURCE
We're terribly saddened to learn of the passing of actor/stuntman Dick Durock, most recognized by genre fans for his portrayal of Swamp Thing.

Durock got his start making appearances in dozens of TV shows such as Battlestar Galactica, The A-Team, Santa Barbara, Knight Rider, Airwolf and many more. Personally, this writer remembers him scaring the hell out of me as the monster in the 1981 two part episode "Frye's Creature" of The Incredible Hulk.

The actor went on to play the DC comics character Swamp Thing in Wes Craven's film, again in it's sequel The Return Of Swamp Thing and also for the Swamp Thing television series, which ran for 71 episodes.

He was 72 years old.

Holy crap. I didn't even know he was anywhere near 72 years old. This really sucks.

Sad news. I clicked on the link and discovered he played the role of the monster in one of my favorite (two-part) episodes of The Incredible Hulk...didn't know that.

Aw, this sucks. Forever immortalized as the Swamp Thing, but I'll seem to always know him best as Lardass's rival in Stand By Me. Just watched him not too long ago as one of the thugs in The Enforcer.

RIP

Wow, never realized that the Swamp Thing TV series lasted that long. I'm a huge fan of the comic character, remember buying the early issues for 20 cents.

RIP. I didn't know he was that old. I guess because I never really saw him without any Swamp Thing make-up or monster costumes.

he was good in the role and RIP, but am i the only one that thinks Swamp Thing is a terrible movie and terribly overrated with its cult status.

I don't think anyone has really said Swamp Thing was a brilliant film, but it's 200 kinds of cheesy awesomeness. I think it's a rad flick and I may watch it later in honor of Mr. Durock.

though the AB scenes in the uncut version are quite lovely.
