Help Identify this Crime Show...
Can any of you TV junkies remember the TV series that goes along with this scene...
It was a criminal procedure show of some kind, but I don't think it was one of the Law and Order series.
It believe it may have been a season premiere episode. It was a scene that took place in a courtroom and there are some lawyers going about some unrelated, mundane business when suddenly (and shockingly) someone (a defendant or lawyer?) is shot in the head and one of the female lead characters is spattered with blood.
Anyone? I'm thinking maybe it was The Practice, but I'm unfamiliar with the show and nothing jumped out at me in the episode guide on Wikipedia.

Re: Help Identify this Crime Show...
That reminds me of a movie...
was in runaway jury?
Dylan Mcdermont was trying to learn a song, rock candy moutain or something and he gets killed all before the credits...i think

I think I remember what you are talking about.
A journeyman public defender comes into court and takes out a gun --and I'm not sure if he shoots his client (the defendant) but he kills himself because he can't take "the system" anymore.
Afterward the other lawyers are shocked because the guy seemed so rock solid, and it's like a cautionary about how this job can get to you in a hurry.
I picture it in my mind and I see the lawyer who commits suicide as a familiar character actor (who kind of resembles Tony Shaloub) but not familiar enough to IMDb him.
I don't think it was L&O because it was more about defenders, so it was a show more like The Practice.
I can see that actor's face in my mind, so if I can pin down something else he was in, I'll come up with it.

I remember the L&O ep this was from. It was at the very beginning (which usually doesn't include the court stuff) as if it was picking up somewhere. it shouldn't be difficult to find since RD and I remember the episode and that it was Kincade.

That sounds familiar too.

Re: Help Identify this Crime Show...
Well, I finally answered my own question...
It was Law and Order...
It was the Season 6 opener, "Bitter Fruit", which included the introduction of Det. Rey Curtis.
The shooter was Ellen Greene as the (supposedly) distraught mother of a murdered teenage girl. The guy she shot was played by John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco from the Sopranos). It was Claire Kincaid who got splattered. It happened about a third of the way through the episode. It turned out that Ellen Greene had hired Artie Bucco to "fake kidnap" her daughter to get back at her ex-husband.

The public defender part vaguely sounds like part of the plot to the film ...And Justice for All, with Al Pacino and Jeffrey Tambor.

YES --that is what I was thinking of. Thank you. Ever since this thread got revived I've been wondering.
The character was Sid Hershberg played by actor Thomas Ryan.
These are the best pics I could find of him.
What do you think --was I right in saying he looks like Tony Shaloub?
