Diana Gabaldon: Interesting For A Man?

A female friend of mine who knows that I (46 year old male) have enjoyed Frank Herbert's Dune and Patrick O'Brian's seafaring novels has suggested that I try some of Diana Gabaldon's books, specifically the Outlander series. I've read some of the descriptions on Amazon and...I'm not sure. They seem very female oriented, not that there's anything wrong with that (ahem, cough, cough). I'm willing to give one a try, but I don't want to waste my time on some Fabio-in-a-kilt thing. Any opinions?

Its not Fabio in a kilt, if you enjoy time travel, war, some sex, I think you might enjoy them. I mean it is not Dune, try the first one see if you like it.
