DVD Talk review of 'Gossip Girl: The Complete Second Season'

I read Ryan Keefer's DVD review of Gossip Girl: The Complete Second Season at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=39505 and...

I just finished watching this season on DVD and I believe you were a bit harsh on this show. While this season may not have had the overall arc that season one did, there were plenty of good smaller arcs to enjoy.

It's not a perfect show, I'll grant. There's a lot of "one step forward, one step back" with all the characters. But overall the ride is a (guilty) pleasure to watch.

If a show like Secret Life of the American Teenager can get a "Highly Recommended" rating around here, Gossip Girl should rate higher than a "Skip it". I felt my braincells dying as I watched the first season of Secret Life, and found very little to redeem it. As for Gossip Girl, my intelligence never felt too insulted, and many plots and twists were smartly executed.

I realize the other show I mention was reviewed by a different reviewer, so I can't draw a direct correlation between the two ratings. But my point is Gossip Girl is a very watchable show (for those who are interested), with some interesting and likable characters. And I think that ratings of "Skip it" should be saved only for those DVDs that are simply unwatchable.

Oh I'm sure it won't be hurt by the college move as it already looks like they'll split time with it and the New York stuff, and it'll sure enjoy titillation with the Hillary Duff cast addition, but I kind of liked it when it was less...titillating? I see that it moved to 9pm too, and since Heroes sucks, guess I might be watching parts of this year to see what happens.

Thanks for reading!
