Toys R Us new Trade in program (including Intellivision games!)
Looks like I'll be shopping at Toys R Us more often now:
WAYNE, N.J., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- To help customers find additional value
in their used video games, today Toys"R"Us introduced a video game trade-in
program at Toys"R"Us stores nationwide. Now, gamers who are ready to move onto
new challenges can exchange their used video game titles from almost any
system, including classics like Intellivision or the newest platforms, for a
Toys"R"Us gift card representing the value offered for the trade-in. Gift
cards can be immediately used on any product available in Toys"R"Us and
Babies"R"Us stores or online at Toysrus.com.
Customers can participate in the video game trade-in program at Toys"R"Us
stores in the United States as follows:
-- Used video games in their original cases, with the original case
artwork
may be brought to a Toys"R"Us Guest Services desk.
-- Games will then be scanned and prices will be offered for individual
titles.
-- Gamers confirm that they want to accept the offer to exchange any, or
all, of the games they brought to the store.
-- Once the transaction is complete, customers receive an activated gift
card equal to the total worth of all games traded.
-- Immediately upon receiving the gift card, customers can purchase any
product from iPods and toys to candy and diapers at any
Toys"R"Us or Babies"R"Us location or online at
Toysrus.com.
"The video game trade-in program is another way we're providing customers with
additional value when they visit our stores," said Bill Lee, Vice President,
Divisional Merchandise Manager, Toys"R"Us, U.S. "This program is designed to
make the exchange process completely hassle-free for customers by accepting
games from even the oldest systems, including the original Atari 2600 and
32-bit Sega Genesis."
Beyond helping customers trade games from current systems such as the Wii,
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable, Toys"R"Us
stores will accept games from almost every gaming system imaginable. Games
from systems such as the Atari 2600, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox,
Nintendo Game Boy, Nintendo 64, Nintendo NES, Intellivision, Sega Genesis can
be exchanged.
The new video game trade-in program builds on the company's growing strength
in the juvenile electronics marketplace. In recent years, Toys"R"Us has added
electronic devices and services that kids crave to its product offerings,
including Apple's iPod, digital cameras for toddlers and netbooks.
Additionally, Toys"R"Us stores offer a large assortment of licensed
electronics, including TVs, radios and karaoke machines featuring images of
classic and new characters such as Disney/Pixar Cars, Hannah Montana,
Barbie((R)), TRANSFORMERS and more.

Re: Toys R Us new Trade in program (including Intellivision games!)
Good luck finding anyone who would be willing to trade in original Atari 2600 or Intellivision games complete with their original manuals/boxes/packaging....as collectibles they'd be worth a lot more on eBay and what not....
I actually did this a couple weeks ago, when I was buying Metroid Prime Trilogy and Punch-Out during their "buy a Wii game, get a second 50% off" sale....I traded in MP3 (since it was absolutely redundant to keep it) and also my useless Rock Band 1 and AC/DC:RB discs (both PS3) and got $22 total for the three....not a ton of cash, but more than the prices Gamestop quoted me, and they were just sitting around collecting dust, never to be used again anyway....

This is interesting as I know of people who have actually given away NES systems with tons of games to strangers just because they wanted to clean up the house. I would love to get some classic games and if Toys R' Us sells them at a reasonable price, then I'll start shopping there.

I don't know what's worse... pairing the Sega Genesis with the 2600 as examples of "even the oldest systems" or not getting its classic 16-bit status right.

Toys R Us tried this once in the late 90's too I remember. It'll be interested to see what happens here.

I would definitely use Toys R Us if they give more credit than Gamestop. Have to keep an eye on this.

However, I'm sure you'll get a dollar or so per game. Will this really entice people to shop at retail prices at TRU? And what will they do with stuff like 2600 games, try to resell? Or is this Cash for Clunkers, and it'll just end up in the ET landfill?

I remember I traded in a broken PS1 and a few PS1 games for a dreamcast at TRU back in the day...

Are you Bill Lee?
The Genesis was 32-bit because the optional 32-x add-on which arrived five years later was 32-bit?
Even if you're attempting a joke, that post fails...
... because anything that involves the 32-x fails.

To each his own...if you are more patient and want to deal with the hassle of shipping stuff to make more money, go ahead...this was actually the first time I had traded in any games anywhere in ages, as I usually find trade values to be too low and I'd rather just keep a disc for what they offer...

damn. they give good prices on newer games. for example the new Batman game gets $43.05 in credit. Absolutely kills Gamestop or Game Crazy, even with bonus trade in offers.

^^ Yeah, I just noticed that. Can this be done in store as well or only internet?
I'll run down tomorrow and trade Batman in if I can.
Nevermind, noticed in the first post it says can be traded in at the service desk. Great deal.
