Weird problem with Muppet Show - Season 1

Here's an odd one:

I recently picked up Muppet Show Season 1 on sale and midway through the 3rd disc (the Ben Vereen episode) the image starts pixalizing, getting choppy and then eventually freezes. I am then unable to access the episodes, or any of the others following this episode from the menu as it just zips me back to the main menu.

Defective disc, right?

I return it, get a new one. Same thing.
Another return. Another new disc.
I go to other stores thinking the first one got a bad batch.
Same problem.

We then started to test the disc at the store and it worked fine but still not on my home DVD player.

It works on my computer as well.

First time I've had this issue. All the other discs, and other Muppet Seasons work fine.

Any ideas?

Its gotta be your DVD player, the DVD player might have problems changing layers. How much did you pay for the DVD player you are using? I've pretty much realized that you get what you pay for with a DVD player. The $20 ones usually last about a year before problems start.

It's not a cheapy player, is the thing. It's not top of the line or anything but it is not one of those $20 buck jobs. Also, it takes the layer changes fine on all my other DVDs. Never had an issue until this particular disc. It just doesn't seem to like Ben Vereen.

I've had dozens and dozens of discs over the years that do exactly this.

They work fine in some players, but do what you describe in others.

Disney discs often have troubles playing in certain players. They have a warning often on the back to this fact.

One of my players has an issue with them, but others play them fine.

If I were you, I would get the disc replaced, to see if it makes a difference. I have had discs that appear perfectly fine not play correctly on my player. Then I swapped them out and they were ok. I have two Phillips and two Apex players and I would say they tend to be overly sensitive. However, there have been situations where it was the disc and not the player. Good luck!
