Got to vote for four of my '90s favorites: GOODFELLAS, JACKIE BROWN, JFK, and FACE/OFF, heavy-hitters all.
Now get on the stick you John Woo fans, we can't let a cutesy-poo toy commercial beat out Woo's best Hollywood film now, can we?

The Game - Going against the grain on this one.
Quick Change - I'm meh on both of them.
The Silence of the Lambs - Bad draw for Insider.
Jackie Brown - easily
7 - love both
SPR - easy
JFK - by a nose
Face/Off - I was tempted to say Toy Story because of a certain forum member but I like face/off too much..

Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Round of 64/Group #1
Matchup #1
Goodfellas vs The Game- I really wanted to vote for The Game because I think mafia movies are blown way out of proportion in our culture. People revere these fucking murderers far too much. But Goodfellas just happens to be one of the best films of the past 20 years so I had to give it to it.
Matchup #2
Quick Change vs Barton Fink- Abstain. Barely remember Barton Fink, and never heard of Quick Change.
Matchup #3
Silence of the Lambs vs The Insider- A tough one. I saw The Insider once years ago and remember being blown away by it... but Silence is a film I come back to once every 2 or 3 years so it must have something a little extra. The book and the movie is feminist in the best sense of that word.
Matchup #4
Jackie Brown vs Chasing Amy- No contest for me. I used to love Chasing Amy when I was 19-20 years old, but these days I just can't get around how awful Joey Lauren Adams is in this movie. She made Ben Affleck look like De Niro. Too bad Kevin Smith let the temptation to cast his girlfriend wreck what could have been his best movie.
Oh, and Jackie Brown's a masterpiece by one of our greatest living filmmakers. There's that too.
Matchup #5
Se7en vs American History X- Kind of tough since I haven't seen either in a very long time. Fincher sometimes turns me off, but this was a pretty effective thriller. Any movie with a "curby" can suck it.
Matchup #6
Saving Private Ryan vs The Player- To me there was no contest. SPR must be one of the most overrated movies of all time. I think people let Spielberg's good intentions and the well-earned reverence of those who fought in WW2 get in the way of seeing that Private Ryan, while visually great, has a mediocre script. Band of Brothers is far far better.
The Player is a lot of fun. The music is bad (as in a lot of Altman's comedies- I just don't get that light thumpy almost-jazzy scoring that both Altman and Alexander Payne seem partial to), but inside-Hollywood satire has never been better.
Matchup #7
JFK vs Being John Malkovich- I only saw JFK once as a kid, but I generally don't like Stone's MTV frenetic style. "Oh look! This shot is black and white! Now this shot is tinted orange! Now this shot is a photographic negative!" Who fucking cares? Conspiracy crap is conspiracy crap, whether it's the pimply dormroom detectives of Loose Change, or a 3-hour Costner epic.
Being Jon Malkovich is a work of fuckin' art. Brilliantly written, and perfectly directed. This should be a landslide.
Matchup #8
Toy Story vs Face/Off- Again, haven't seen either since they were in the theatres. I admire Pixar and know that they do good work, but I'm just not a cartoon guy. Can't get into it as much, can't relate to animated animals and stuff as I can real human beings.
Face/Off was just too much fun not to vote for. A cartoon for adults.

Wow...the JFK vs. BJM fight is pretty close. Kinda amusing to see two fan fav directors with somewhat underappreciated films against each other in other words. Jackie Brown vs. Chasing Amy...kinda close as well.

That isn't what he means. Round one featured 128 entrants in the tournament, but the matchups were played out over the course of several polls-- the 128 matchups were broken into groups of 8. That roun d is now done; meaning, we have 64 entrants left. The process repeats and we are left with 32, then 16, then 8, then 4, then 2, then a winner.
