Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3) 29.99 @ Best Buy Starting 8/16
NeoStrider @ CAG is reporting the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will be in Best Buy's circular 8/16 as a Greatest Hits title for 29.99 .... assume if this is a GH addition that the price reduction will also be made at other retailers/etailers as well
didn't want this to get buried in the VG deals thread or Uncharted 2 thread for those who have been waiting on a price drop
how you waited I have no idea

This is perfect timing, because I was one of those people who waited...and I still have no idea how.

Brilliant game. Other than some minor screen tearing...the perfect Tomb Raider.
I strongly recommend learning the brutal combo. It's most rewarding.

It was a great game, but calling it a Tomb Raider game is very misleading.

Honestly, I found it far less interesting than the hype made it out to be. I could see paying $20 for it, but not $30.

I never picked up this game either, mainly because it didn't interest me too much. But I'd be interested in this for $20-$25. Even $30 might still be pushing it; I've gotten used to paying ~$15 per game these days.

If it's in a Tomb Raider-esque setting, how is it "not even close"? Does Gears have platforming, climbing and swimming? Are they searching for artifacts? Did Gears have a supernatural bent? Did you miss the puzzles in Uncharted?
I doubt I'm the only one who thinks Uncharted is a bit like Tomb Raider but with combat that works, first rate voice-work and gorgeous graphics.

That's just it though, there weren't any puzzles to rack your brain over. The setting and story give you a false sense of Tomb Raider-hood but in the end it's a third person shooter, not a platformer, puzzler. What "puzzles" are there are no more intriguing than what you get in the first 10 minutes of a TR game, they never advance beyond a rudimentary stage.
I pretty much played it back-to-back-to-back with the TR games. I went through TR: Anniversary, TR: Underworld and then Uncharted. Gameplay-wise, they're really not even close.
Like I said, I really liked Uncharted but to pitch it as TR is misleading. Having played them back to back and expecting a TR like experience going in, it was slightly disappointing. I had to accept it for what it was and enjoy it as that.
Here's how I'd lay out the key points:
Graphics: a wash, they're both gorgeous with similar settings
Story: likewise, a wash. Both start out decent but get looney towards the end
Characters: Uncharted gets the edge, but is tainted a bit by Drakes constant appearances in other games(see Shadow Complex, Assassin's Creed & Prince of Persia)
Puzzles: TR: Underworld by a huge margin
Gunplay/Action: Uncharted by a huge margin
Camera: Uncharted by a huge margin - you would think after 9 games in the series the TR folks would figure out how to make a camera that works.
So if someone is looking for a solid adventure game with sometimes complex puzzles to figure out, Underworld is your game. If you want a TR like setting that is light on puzzles but with a better camera system and gunplay then Uncharted is what you want.

^ Count me as one of the people who always thought this was similar to Tomb Raider in terms of gameplay, based on what I had heard about the game (I never bothered to read much into the press/reviews for it).
I was thinking of getting it once it hits GH status and the price drops, but this clarification has piqued my interest!

I had a lot more fun with Uncharted than Tomb Raider Underworld, mostly since the controls on Uncharted are much better IMO. Definitely an easier "puzzle" game though.

Since I got my PS3 a few months ago I've been waiting for a decent deal on these "early" PS3 games. For example, got MGS4 when I bought the system for $30, and I thought that was a great deal.
Sony really needs to get their head out of their ass and knock some of these prices down, try to help people build up a collection.

All I know is that I felt pretty underwhelmed by the demo, but bought it for $30 about a year ago during an Amazon lightning deal after hearing all the rave reviews. After playing through the actual game, Uncharted 2 is one of my most anticipated titles and I have no problem paying full price for it.

Crud, I read the title as the new game at 29.99. I know that would have been totally insane, but I guess my eyes wanted it to be true.
