Star Trek Sheep: The Next Generation

    Rules

  • The object of the game is to out-think everyone by picking answers to questions that are the most common (Sheep) or least common (Reverse Sheep), but still correct.
  • Example Sheep question: "Name a president of the United States." A good answer might be Lincoln and a bad answer might be the socialist.
  • Example Reverse Sheep question: "Name a brand of personal computer, past or present". Apple might be a bad answer, but Radio Shack might be a good answer. (Unless everyone is trying to go as obscure as possible).
  • Sheep scores are tallied as negative numbers. Reverse Sheep scores are tallied as positive numbers. The lowest score wins.
  • The answers to each question are tallied up. Wrong answers in Reverse Sheep are scored two points above the most common answer. This penalty is multiplied by the Lightning Round Multiplier. Wrong answers in Sheep are not penalized.
  • Certain rounds are considered Lightning Rounds (designated by a multiplier, such as ×2). In these rounds, scores are adjusted by the number on the multiplier. A wrong answer still gets a +4 penalty in a ×2 round and a +6 penalty in a ×3 round, and so on. In a sheep round, a wrong answer scores normally.
  • NEW! There is a Unique Bonus for Reverse Sheep Unique Answers. This is calculated based on the most common answer +2. Basically, it's the reverse of wrong answer scoring.
  • NEW! If the most common answer for a Sheep question is incorrect, all other answers receive a bonus equal to half of the score of the most common answer, rounded down. For example: "Name a vegetable". The most common answer is "tomato" and is worth -15 points. All other answers receive a -7 bonus to their score.
  • You may not cheat by using Google, Wikipedia, Memory Alpha, etc. Use only what's in your head.
  • For purposes of this game, only the five live-action series and eleven live-action movies count as canon.
  • Please send in your answers to me via PM. Place only one answer per line, without numbers or the question itself. Those who do not do this will be penalized 10 points right off the bat.
  • NEW! If you don't answer a question, do not leave that line blank. Please put "I don't know", "no answer", "fuck you", etc. Those who do not do this will be penalized 20 points for each blank space. It messes up my spreadsheet and I hate fixing it because it makes my eyes cross and drives me insane.
  • For your convenience, I've made a spreadsheet where you can prepare your answers. When finished, just select the column of answers and send that in as text via PM. Keep in mind that for Google Docs you must "create a copy" and then you will be able to edit it.
  • The Borg are not a species.
  • Note: For the purposes of this game, Reverse Sheep answers will be determined to be correct or incorrect based on my whims. I can of course be swayed by evidence, argument, etc. However, a better way to curry favor is by giving me gifts. A particular favorite is chocolate hobnobs (In Stock.). PM me for my address.
  • Sheep questions are marked by an S:, Reverse Sheep questions are marked by an R:.
  • I would like to get at least 20 players. People that have run a game in the past or suggested questions to me that I have used have a guaranteed spot.
  • Special thanks goes out to The Bus for providing the formatting, rules, etc. for me to steal.
  • Additional special thanks goes to The Bus, wishbone,Venusian, and Red Dog for providing me with question suggestions, some of which I have used here.
  • The game is tentatively set to begin on Friday, August 14, around 9AM EDT.

    The Questions

  1. S: The Original Series was canceled in 1968, but a letter-writing campaign convinced NBC to renew it for a third (and final) season. Name another television series that was brought back through fan action.
  2. S: Who was the least annoying member of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NX-01? (note: Porthos was not a member of the crew)

  7. S: Name a character from any Trek series or movie that was disliked by fans.
  8. S: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5 were claimed to be in some sort of feud in the 1990s. Name one of the areas of similarity between the two shows that spawned this belief.
  9. S: Besides humans, name a species shown to have members assimilated by the Borg (note: the Borg are not a species).
  10. R: Androids were a recurring feature of Star Trek. Name (or describe) one that appeared in any series or movie.
  11. R: Name an enemy (ship or species) that the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 fired its weapons on.
  12. S: Name one of the differences between The Animated Series and The Original Series.
  13. S: Who would you rather punch in the crotch, Rick Berman or Brannon Braga?
  14. R: Name (or describe) any episode or movie in which the Prime Directive was broken.
  15. R: Name a member (planet or species) of the Federation.
  16. S: Name any non-human sentient species.
  17. S:×2 Name the best episode of The Original Series.
  18. R:×3 Scotty and Uhura both wore red shirts. Name another “red shirt” from The Original Series era.
  19. R:×4 Name an actor that quit a Trek series.
  20. R:</font ×5 Many Trek actors have appeared on Saturday Night Live. Name one of them.
  21. R:</font ×10 Name a member of The Original Series crew that was made a captain in Starfleet.

Good luck!

Re: Star Trek Sheep: The Next Generation

So for question #3, you want the name of the species, not the character?

Re: Star Trek Sheep: The Next Generation

On Q3, you say you want a species answer, not character. You also mention "main character," so does the person have to be a main character? What constitutes a main character? Credited in the opening credits or simply characters with many appearances?

Re: Star Trek Sheep: The Next Generation

To me, it sounds like it needs to be the species of a non-human main character. But does "human" mean "humanoid" or specifically "homo-sapien"? Because I can think of main characters who are humanoid but are identified as another species.

It means exactly what the question says. You guys are overthinking this question way too much

I think it's being overthought because there just aren't that many since there are a number of overlaps. I assume you won't accept "X's species" as a correct answer, correct?

Am I the only one having problems bringing up the spreadsheet? If so, could someone post an excel version?

I'm having trouble too. Even though I have an account with google docs, it tells me I have to request permission. I've gotten sheep spreadsheets through the last couple of games with no problem.

Re: Star Trek Sheep: The Next Generation

Where you haven't specified, what counts. Obviously, the live action-series all count, but do the movies count? The animated series? The novels? The comics? My voluminous collection of K/S fan-fic?

I assume the answer is that the live action serieses and the movies do count but nothing else does, except on the one question where you specifically ask about the animated series. Correct?

Umm. You might want to restrict the access a bit. Someone is putting their answers in the master copy for all to see.

That was me ... and I erased them as soon as I could see others viewing it

Isn't there a way to just download the document to our computer? (EDIT - I got it)

I also added the above information to the rules. If anyone that has already submitted answers thinks any of their answers are no longer valid, feel free to change them.

Re: Star Trek Sheep: The Next Generation

So how bad would the penalty be if anyone answers "Borg" for a question that asks for a species?
