My Wii is Dead :(
Well, it bit the dust. I had been having intermittent problems with it the past few days, with it not getting to the warning screen or not booting up after being shut down. Now, no matter how many times I unplug and restart it won't get past that screen, or even get there. Called Nintendo, 85 bucks for shipping both ways and the repair.
It sucks because I haven't played the thing for months but in the past couple of weeks I picked up Mad World, House of the 2&3, HOTD: Overkill, and WiiSports Resort, and I can't play them! Well at least not finish them. I got to at least play them all.
So anyone run into the same error on their system?
I figure I would post this since the RROD gets so much press, and I haven't had any problems with my 360.

It's funny because when I called customer service I stopped myself from saying my Wii, and instead said the system.

At least it is not Sony's ass raping price of 150 bucks plus tax to send you a refurbised unit with a crappy 90 day limited warranty. On top of that you lose all of your saved data unless you had it backed up to an external memory device.

True, but here you're dealing with somewhat less expensive hardware (particularly the disc drive), and I imagine the shipping cost has to be cheaper for Nintendo.

Well, the saved data isn't guaranteed to be recovered, but they do send you a new unit if they can't fix yours.
Also Gizmo, I wish I had known about that sooner if you were serious.

My wii is currently in the shop. at least its supposed to be a fast turn around.
mine stopped reading discs and would just make an odd clicking sound when it tried to read them. all the wiiware was still working, though.
i couldnt back up my mario kart or SSBB save files, though. i hope they dont get lost

Re: My Wii is Dead :(
I had to send my Wii in a few weeks back. They weren't able to recover of my saved files though, so all my data has been wiped. I was able to re-download all my Virtual Console games again though. It was a fairly painless process, and $85 with a 1-year warranty isn't too bad.
My PS3 stopped working 2 weeks before the Wii did, and as mentioned above, would have cost me $150 and come with just a 90-day warranty. I still haven't decided if I want to have it fixed or just sell it on eBay or Craigslist.
