I got into DVD's about 6 months ago and have always liked home theater, I was just never committed enough to spend the $ on it. I decided that I am going to start building my home theater system this summer. Right now I have a 55" Toshiba projection TV as the centerpiece and a Toshiba SD-3109 for DVD. I have an old Pioneer VSX-D603S Pro-Logic receiver, but will upgrade to a DD receiver after everything else is purchased. Now here's my question. I have read up on speakers and decided to go with JBL S310's as my main speakers, and AudioSource's SW-Fifteen as the sub(using Amazon GC's of course). I am also planning on buying the S-Center from JBL. I want to get JBL for surrounds too, but I'm not sure what exactly to get. I have heard both the JBL S310's and S38's and I think they both sound sweet, and was wondering if the S38's would make good surround speakers for Dolby Digital. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

If they are the same series of speaker, then they should be voice matched.
You could go to www.crutchfield.com and see if they sell your main speakers. If they do, then they probably recommend a speaker to use as a surrond. You could also search for JBL's homepage and check out their surround recommendations.

Read my webpage "Why you should add JBL N & S Series to your audition list!" @ http://www.geocities.com/p_iturra/JBL_Labs.html and you'll understand why. It's based on Stereo Review SEPT. 1998 - "The High End" article, pg. 112 by Corey Greenberg.

I've been a big JBL fan for years and have JBL speakers making up my HT system. They are older models but I'm very happy with thier proformance. I'm glad to see the line is getting the attention as a top speaker line again.

I have had my S310's for about 2 weeks now, and I could not be happier. They are so sweet sounding that it's hard to explain. For 5 years of so I have just had old cheap Pioneer speakers, and I never realized how terrible they sound. What an incredible improvement! I got the S310's from www.thebigstore.com for under $440 shipped and it was worth every penny. If you in the market for some mains, give these things a listen. I was also really surprised by the great bass response for 10" speakers. The treble is amazing too! A VERY good investment.
