Book Talk (Reverse) Sheep — The Rise and Fall of the Sheep Empire

Never played before? Here's some praise for the game:
Spoiler:

"These things are the most fun way to waste time at work since GemCraft." - maxfisher

"This is the most stirring display of gallantry and sportsmanship since Mountbatten gave India back to the Punjabs." - wishbone

"These have been really fun." - Tracer Bullet

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Bus for quite possibly the funniest commentary of any of the sheep games." - orangecrush18

    Rules

  • The object of the game is to out-think everyone by picking answers to questions that are the most common (Sheep) or least common (Reverse Sheep), but still correct.
  • Example Sheep question: "Name a famous book by Tolkien." A good answer would be The Hobbit and a bad answer might be The Silmarillion.
  • Example Reverse Sheep question: "Name a character in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings". Bilbo Baggins might be a bad answer, but Ghân-buri-Ghân might be a good answer. (Unless everyone is trying to go as obscure as possible).
  • Sheep scores are tallied as negative numbers. Reverse Sheep scores are tallied as positive numbers. The lowest score wins.
  • The answers to each question are tallied up. Wrong answers in Reverse Sheep are scored two points above the most common answer. This penalty is multiplied by the Lightning Round Multiplier. Wrong answers in Sheep are not penalized.
  • Certain rounds are considered Lightning Rounds (designated by a multiplier, such as ×2). In these rounds, scores are adjusted by the number on the multiplier. A wrong answer still gets a +4 penalty in a ×2 round and a +6 penalty in a ×3 round, and so on. In a sheep round, a wrong answer scores normally.
  • You may not cheat by using Google, Wikipedia, etc. Use only what's in your head. NEW! A few questions () contain links to resources which you may check to answer that question.
  • Please send in your answers to me via PM. Place only one answer per line, without numbers or the question itself. Those who do not do this will be penalized 10 points right off the bat.
  • For your convenience, I've made an Excel file where you can prepare your answers. When finished, just select the column of answers and send that in as text via PM. Don't email me the Excel file, that would be silly. (Google version here).
  • Note: Unless specifically mentioned in the question, all books need to be published books. If authors are named, publicly-known pen names are OK (Richard Bachman).
  • Sheep questions are marked by an S:, Reverse Sheep questions are marked by an R:.
  • NEW! Equalizer Question(s) A few questions are Equalizer Questions. These are designed to make the mid- and late-game more competitive. These questions are marked by an E: in front of them. In these questions, all answers are grouped together as per usual, but the top 50% (rounded up) all have their answers count as Reverse Sheep questions, and the bottom 50% (rounded down) have their answers count as Sheep questions.
    Spoiler:

Let's say there's six players, with their scores as such:
    Googlemj23 : -40
    PapaRobot : -28
    The Gus : -20
    orangefanta18 : -10
    freensty : 8
    FasonJ : 32

The question was "Name an American car maker" and everyone but FasonJ answered "Ford". (He answered "Chrysler"). The "Ford" answer would count as -5 points to orangefanta18 and freensty, and as +5 points to Googlemj3, PapaRobot and The Gus. FasonJ gets 0 points and remains in last.

    The Questions

  1. S: Name one of the books of the Bible.
  2. R: Name a book written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss.
  3. S: ×2 Name a book that high school students are forced to read which is actually enjoyable to read.
  4. S: In stage musicals, the book is the spoken dialogue. Name a musical currently on Broadway. √ Check
  5. S: Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 was a terrible movie. Name another terrible movie from the year 2000. √ Check
  6. S: ×2 Name a Nobel prize winner in Literature.
  7. S: Name the book currently on the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list which would be the most enjoyable to read. √ Check
  8. S: Name the book currently on the New York Times hardcover non-fiction bestseller list which would be the least enjoyable to read. √ Check
  9. R: Derrial Book is the Sheperd to the crew of the Serenity in the series Firefly (and the film Serenity). By name or description, name one of the ship's crew members at the beginning of the film.
  10. S: Nathan Fillion plays Richard Castle, a famous mystery novelist, in the ABC series Castle. Name another TV series where the lead character is a writer or works in publishing.
  11. R: Name one of the four largest English language publishing houses.
  12. E: Name one of the four houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
  13. E: Name one of the seven books in the Harry Potter series.
  14. R: ×3 Name a book which has over 50 million copies in print.
  15. R: Amazon.com is a popular online site where books can be purchased. Name a country that is in the Amazon river system.
  16. E: ×4 Name a fiction book written by Michael Crichton.
  17. R: Name a Stephen King book which has been turned into a film, made-for-TV movie, or miniseries. (Be sure to name the book, not the movie).
  18. R: Name an author who has at least one novel which won both prestigious Hugo and Nebula Awards for science fiction literature.
  19. S: Name a book written by Cormac McCarthy.
  20. R: ×5 Name a character with a speaking role in William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Good luck!

You'll note I don't have a start date for this one. I will start the game once I have an appropriate amount of entries (20-35).

If you'd like future rounds of Book (Reverse) Sheep, send me suggestions for questions. You can send them with your answers if you wish. It won't count against you on formatting.

NOTE: ALL IS FIXED!

Re: Book Talk (Reverse) Sheep — The Rise and Fall of the Sheep Empire

Love the sheep games, but there's no way I could play this one. I can only answer about half of the questions.

Re: Book Talk (Reverse) Sheep — The Rise and Fall of the Sheep Empire

It looks like the Google spreadsheet matches the answers here, but there are oddities (see Venusian's posts for details).

Sounds like fun. After running two of these it'll be nice to sit back and watch the results roll in.

Even with the healthy dose of Harry Potter, I couldn't answer many of the questions. I also like that in your example of the equalizer, you are beating both JasonF and myself.

Now if this one fills up before I submit my answers, I'll really be pissed.

Re: Book Talk (Reverse) Sheep — The Rise and Fall of the Sheep Empire

Question #1 could be quite controversial depending on what denomination's Bible you are using.

Edit: I honestly have no clue what is going on with the Equalizer qs, and a big FU to The Bus for googlemjd23!
