Shelf Porn for Meatwad's Ghost (spinoff of DCBS thread)
Thought this would be fun. And I have been wanting to brag about this bookshelf I picked up recently for less than $300.
This has all the Omnis and DC/Vertigo Absolutes currently released. The Bendis Daredevil lying sideways is just the extra corrected cover sent out by DCBS. Haven't decided what to do with it.
Bottom shelf holds the two Walking Dead "Absolutes" (but they aren't pictured, but they are on the right), Complete Calvin And Hobbes, Bill Maudlin's Willie And Joe WWII years, and The Art Of Ralph McQuarrie. The bottom shelf will be relocated when Marvel gets some more Omnis out.
Have some other stuff upstairs, but my main focus is anything in these oversized comprehensive formats.
And yes my wife lets me keep them in the bedroom.

Those DC Directs you have stingermck are sweet. I keep thinking of picking up a few more but always stop myself. The Kingdom Come Superman I have I go free at a comic store when I bought two of those Star Trek retro Mego figures.

Thanks! Those pics are pretty old, I need to update those also, since 25th Anniversary GI Joe has invaded.

Pretty much the same story on the Omnis. Pre-ordered The FF Vol 1 and picked up Ultimate Spider-Man at Barnes and Noble. And not an official Omni, but I guess it was a test run for the format. Pre-ordered every single one after that, but I did skip pre-ordering Alias because I think I thought it had something to do with the TV show. Ended up ordering it late in 2006 and I'm glad I did. Excellent series and now OOP in the Omni format.
So I complain about too many Daredevil Omnis or the Superman For Tomorrow Absolute in other threads, but I am totally the big two's bitch when it comes to these monstrosities!

Slop, great shelf! what's the deal with your Superman For Tomorrow and the red dust Jacket? looks different than mine. I see you have JLA/Avengers too. Forgot about that one. I guess it's not an official Avsolute, but maybe I should pick it up for completeness.

The red Supes spine is outer slip-cover and not the dust-jacket. And yeah, they don't call the JLA/Avengers book an Absolute, but it pretty much is - Perez's art looks fantastic in the format. It's similar to the Crisis Absolute in how it has the series in one book and the extra material all in it's own book, both stuffed into the slip-cover. My favorite Absolutes have to be the two Authorities - the format works with that book better than any other. But the most valuable thing in that picture is the Vox amp - only 400 of those were made

I work late the last couple of nights because of the holiday and during that time I get my name in a post title.
Excellent collections MBoyd and slop101, like the looks of your shelves and jealous of most of the books.
MBoyd that's the type of bookcase I would like to get, was this purchased at a national store? The doors would be great to keep people from just looking through them, especially the nieces/nephews.
I would post a pic of my collection but to give you an idea it's about 4-5 staples paper boxes stacked in a cheap cardboard file cabinet holder.

Re: Shelf Porn for Meatwad's Ghost (spinoff of DCBS thread)
Well the bookshelf was purchased in January at Nieman-Marcus Last Call which is in an outlet mall north of Dallas. Original tagged price was a ridiculous $1299. It was marked down to around $699 which was crossed out, then $450 for the outlet store. The sales lady strolled over as I was looking at it and told me it was an additional percentage off that weekend and it was around $260. I jumped on it at that price. Always wanted something with glass to reduce the dust accumulation. The doors don't lock or anything.
I think what you need is barrister bookcase. I've been cruising consignment shops here in Austin looking at a few. A friend of mine has all his DVDs in a really nice one.

Thanks, I thought that price sounded a little too good to be true. I'll have to look into the barristers.

I'll have to update since I don't have any current pics, but in the meantime here's our Gaiman section, which probably hasn't changed too much since this pic was taken.

OK here is mine. 2 $29 cases from Wal-Mart. The 2nd one isn't completely put together, cause of the window, and haven't needed the space yet.

I picked up a 4-character Top Cow piece by Mariah Benes (inked by some dude, JP something) for $51 plus shipping via ebay. I was surprised. Some artist won't even do a head sketch for less than $50 these days. I really need to scan in the recent pieces of art I've picked up of late. But I digress.

Fred, Maria and their studio do commission sketches here. Really good prices:

Re: Shelf Porn for Meatwad's Ghost (spinoff of DCBS thread)
I recently moved and set up a comic room and thought I'd share some shelf-porn. Apologies for the quality of the pics -- I haven't unpacked my camera yet, so these were taken with my smart phone.
So first, here's what everything looked like when I first moved in (all images spoilerized for size):
By the way, if you ever move, hit your local comic shop up for free boxes. Mine was more than happy to give me his empty Diamond boxes every Wednesday.
I have now unpacked the comic room and I'm ready to share some pics with everyone:
Here is a wide shot of the comic room:
Eagle-eyed viewers might recognize the furniture as Ikea's Billy bookcases. I have the shelf extenders, which takes them to ceiling height. I have a total of 5 of the larger ones (32" wide) and 1 of the smaller ones (16" wide). Here, we see, from left to right, one of the large ones, the small one which is on a corner, then two of the larger ones. All of the bookcases except the corner one have glass doors. It's a pretty sweet set-up if I do say so myself.
Here's a shot of the Essentials and Showcases. The doors are closed, so there's some glare, but that's what they look like all lined up and shelved together.
Here's a closer shot of some of them with the doors open to eliminate the glare.
Here are some other shots:
The top shelf has some of my nicer collections, like the Absolute Sandman and the Rocketeer hardcover. The next shelf is my manga shelf. Below that are some of my taller books, like the Paradox Press Big Books or the Tintin albums.
Here's the corner unit. Since it doesn't have doors, this is where I keep books that are deeper than the bookcases -- things like the Calvin and Hobbes collection or the thoroughly awesome talking Marvel history book, which contains a little digital media player with a bunch of clips of Stan Lee reminiscing about the history of Marvel comics. And ... um ... Lost Girls, which I bought purely for the literary and artistic merit. Yeah, that's the ticket. Also, the super-awesome "Batman from the 30s to the 70s" and "Superman from the 30s to the 70s," which were my first exposure to comics older than whatever was on the newsstands that month.
Not pictured, but there's also a closet in the room that contains about 15 short boxes full of comics. That's not particularly sexy, though, so I didn't take a picture of it.

i forgot about this thread, I took these a few months ago, some of the most recent ones weren't on the shelf yet, and random action figures are scattered around, but here goes.
Ill try to get some more current pics up soon.
