Okay, I'll be the first to admit that I leapt before I looked, but does anyone know of a good quality receiver that has DD 5.1 decoding built in? I decided about six months ago to buy the Tosh 2109 and simply thought that all receivers (that I would upgrade to) would decode the DD as they do for DTS. I would hate to have to purchase either a DD decoder or another DVD player, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Since there are probably 500 receivers that meet your requirements, and they start at $300 and go up past $3000, it would be helpful if you told us what your budget is.
And knowing what other equipment you have (especially speakers) and what your room is like would be nice, too.
-S, who'd like to help you, really

I currently am running a Harman/Kardon AVR 20 II with Bose 301s up front, 100s in back and the VCS-10 in the middle (I just moved from a town that had a Bose factory store ...) as well as a small Ultimate 8" sub that I picked up cheap at 800.com. Video is a spankin' new 46" Sony rear projection.
I would like to keep the budget under $600; but brand quality and reptutation mean a lot to me. I have looked at other HK stuff, but they tend to not have the DD decoder built in. Hifi.com has a Marantz SR-5000 Dolby Digital/DTS Receiver that appears to; an email has already been sent to their CS dept. Thanks again for the help!

I'd recommend the Marantz. Denon and Yamaha also make competitive receivers in this price range, and are often recommended here.
You should definitely check here once you get a price quote, to make sure you're not getting rooked.

I have a Sony STRE-DE535 and it's outstanding as far as I'm concerned the best part is I only paid 250.00 for it brand new. Some of the newer Sony models under 500.00 will probably work just fine as well
P.S. I have the Toshiba 2109 DVD player as well.

Hifi is offering the aforementioned Marantz for $599 -- seems okay, but probably will go to mysimon.com to rest easier (will purchase in ~3 wks or so).
Also, me -- rooked? hahahahhahaha!!!! Don't forget that we're all gangsters here, right?
