Sunny Day Real Estate reunite for Fall tour
This is amazing. From the newly launched sunnydayrealestate.fm:
Guess I'm making a quick trip to Chicago in September to visit my brother/catch this tour because I cannot miss it. I got to see them a couple times back in the day but sadly never with the original line up.
'Diary' and especially 'LP2' were HUGE records for me when they came out and still blow my mind today. I wonder what kind of bonus material we'll get - hopefully [finally] CD copies of the 7"s and maybe nice remastered copies of the 'Diary' demos and 'LP2' rough mixes that have been floating around for ages?
SCHEDULED FOR FALL 2009
Sub Pop to Reissue Diary & LP2 on September 15th
Following a more than 10 year hiatus, all four original members of pioneering Seattle rock band Sunny Day Real Estate will regroup for a 20-date US tour starting Sept. 17th, 2009. In addition, Sub Pop Records will re-issue both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes and will be released on both CD and LP Sept. 15, 2009, just prior to the start of the tour.
Both Diary and LP2 will be available everywhere including subpop.com & sunnydayrealestate.fm.

I've seen every incarnation on every tour. I'll try to make this one too, even if it won't be the same after all these years...

This is awesome. What's not awesome is that Chicago is the closest they'll be to St. Louis. I will probably not make it up there.
I will definitely be getting the Diary LP. I already have LP2 on CD and vinyl, so the bonus tracks will have to be pretty good for me to pick up that LP also.

Re: Sunny Day Real Estate reunite for Fall tour
Subpop.com has the re-issue tracklists up and they're pretty bare. 'Diary' comes with "8" and "9" from 'Thief, Steal Me A Peach' and 'LP2' has "Spade and Parade" from the "Friday" 7" [though not the early version of "Friday" from the a-side] and "Bucket of Chicken" from the "How It Feels To Be Something On" 7" [which was an 'LP2' outtake anyways]. Not surprising that they're not loaded, but a little disappointing we didn't at least get all the 7"s on there. [I know "Flatland Spider" really has no business being on 'Diary' but now it seems we'll never get a CD issue of it.]

Re: Sunny Day Real Estate reunite for Fall tour
The setlist for last night in Chicago:
Friday
Seven
Shadows
Song About An Angel
Grendel
Guitars & Video Games
Iscarabaid
Theo B
New Song
47
J'Nuh
Sometimes
--
In Circles
48
The lack of "Rodeo Jones" and particularly "8" was VERY surprising - I've never seen them NOT play "8" - especially considering "Guitars & Video Games" was randomly inserted mid-set. [Honestly, I could've done without it - even beyond the fact that it was a post-breakup song, I've never been a big fan.] Jeremy introduced the new song as "no title, just new song for now" saying they had written it right before the start of the tour. It sounded pretty much exactly like you'd expect a new SDRE song to sound like in 2009 - it was at least as good as the best parts of 'How It Feels To Be Something On' and 'The Rising Tide'. Hopefully we'll get a 7" or something after the tour.
"Grendel" was a TOTAL shock and the highlight for me - except it got practically zero crowd response from a group that was otherwise super, super into the show. I always thought it was a fan favorite, apparently I was wrong. It's always been one of MY favorites so I was more than happy to hear it. "Iscarabaid" and "J'Nuh" KILLED. Hell, every song killed.
They looked great and sounded amazing. If you've got a show coming up, you're in for a very special treat.
