DVD Autographs: Disc or Cover-art???
So I’m heading to the Trek Expo in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a couple of weeks, and I was thinking of getting Leonard Nimoy to sign my DVD copy of either Star Trek III or Star Trek IV.
My question is: what do most people do in regards to autographing DVDs? Do they have the disc signed, or the the cover-art?

I have over 100 signed dvds and only one is on the disc. I prefer the cover art so that the autograph is more pronounced and easier to display.

I handed Darren Aronofsky my Requiem for a Dream DVD, and I left it up to him. He said the best place was the disc, but I think that was his personal choice. I'm sure he felt closer to that than the cover art.

Sucks I have to miss the Expo this year. A couple of years ago the doctor from Voyager tried to pick up my friend.

Re: DVD Autographs: Disc or Cover-art???
Thanks guys. Perhaps my question was a dumb one (despite what people “say,” I think there are such things as “dumb questions” in the world), but I have never had a DVD signed before..., only photos and comics (and 1 action figure). When I was trying to think of stuff I own to get Nimoy to sign, I suddenly realized, “Hey, he directed Star Trek III & IV!”
Covert-art it is, then...

Definitely the cover-art.
My other suggestion is to be prepared for them to sign it - some will want to sign the actual plastic protector on the DVD case (not a good idea) and others will just completely fold up the cover art if they need to take it out or put it back in the case - just hand them the coverart (even handing them the cover art (taken out) and the DVD case, they'll try to do you the favor of putting it away for you, damaging it in the process.

Cover art without a doubt.
I went to a couple of trek conventions back in the days before dvd. I remember waiting in line to get sigs from Worf, Troi and Riker, when a buddy turned to me and said he didnt have anythign for Worf to sign. I had 1 8x10 of each and didnt really have anything else. So i pulled a dollar out of my wallet that heppend to have been stamped by the local head shop. So worf signed a dollar bill with george washington saying "I grew hemp".
But some nice dvd cover-art would have been better.

I have only one DVD autographed at that's Černý Petr by Miloš Forman. I chose to have him sign the disc itself, as I didn't want to fumble around taking the cover art out of the case.

Cover art is definitlely the way to go, especially if you plan on getting other people involved with the film to sign it as well. So far, I've got my Futurama DVD with "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" signed by Shatner, Nimoy, Takei and Nichols. All I'm missing is Koenig and Frakes (yeah, he had one line, but that makes it just that much cooler). It makes for a true geek trophy.

Damn, it's sad that (as a member of the Tulsa FanForce) I'm just now hearing about Trek Expo through this thread
It's fallen quite a bit in the last years. Didn't even know Nimoy was coming. That should be a big deal.

I've always had autographs on the cover art when possible.
The only times I've had inserts signed, is when it's of material which doesn't lend itself well to paint pens or ink.

I know this isn't an option that you presented, but why not buy a one-sheet online to have him sign? If the movie holds dear to your heart, buying a nice frame and showing it off in your house will be much cooler then just a DVD case.

Re: DVD Autographs: Disc or Cover-art???
Cover art only for me .. With front-loading players (like the PS3), wouldn't the autographs potentially be damaged? I know that the PS3 turns the disc as it is pulled it, and the wheels turning/pulling the disc in couldn't be good for the signature.
