This is GREAT news, I hope Season 5 follows soon.
This morning CBS/Paramount have announced that Taxi - The 4th Season will be released on DVD at last this September 22nd, a week or so after the four-year anniversary of the third season's release. You'll get 24 episodes, including the two-part season finale, on a set running 581 minutes long. Guest stars include Martin Short, Melendy Britt, Rhea Perlman, Jack Gilford, Barbara Babcock, Ernie Hudson, Carol Kane, Ted Danson, Bubba Smith, Vincent Schiavelli, Dr. Joyce Brothers, Wendy Phillips and Tom Hanks (yes, THAT Tom Hanks!). Video is full frame, and audio is English mono. No other details or pricing is available yet, but we do have the package art to prove that we're not making this stuff up!

Re: Where are the rest of the seasons of 'Taxi'
A lot of abandoned shows are getting new releases all of a sudden. Wonder if it is because the studios are running out of properties to release...

I loved the last two seasons of Taxi. This is great. Can't wait to pick this up. Hopefully we'll get the fifth and final now.

I recall last year when the writer's strike was on that we were told studios would be looking in their back catalog for shows to release instead. It turns out that some good stuff finally got moved out of the vaults to DVD!

TVShowsOnDVD.com is reporting that the fifth and final season will be released on December 22nd, just three months after Season 4. I'm really glad that after the four-year wait between Seasons 3 and 4, they're releasing the final season so quickly.

I'm still waiting on the last 2 seasons of Family Ties. I didn't think this post warranted it's own thread.

Now if they can release Mork and Mindy the 4th and final season, we'regood to go. It's been almost 2 years since the third season was released.

Re: Where are the rest of the seasons of 'Taxi'
Ok, two things.
I've just watched the first disc (8 episodes) and on the episode "Vienna Waits", I guess they couldn't clear the Billy Joel song "Vienna" as it's been completely cut out of the episode. The scene on the plane where the guy performs the song on guitar is edited out and the song has been replaced by other music in the rest of the episode.
Also, in the episode "Louie's Fling", at one point Louie is watching the Miss Universe Pageant on TV. The music coming from the TV is Heinz Kiessling's "Temptation Sensation", which is the same piece of music used for the theme to "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia".

Already have the first 3 seasons and will pick up the last 2 when they get price drops later on. Glad they are finally getting released. Sort of disappointed to hear some of the original music was replaced though.

So I guess now we find out what the hold up was in getting these seasons out...music rights. Sad to see that they couldn't get it cleared after all this time.

Rewatching those shows after so long reminded me of what a funny show it was. Loved the episode "I Want To Be Here" where Louie supplies a shelter to prepare for the end of the world. I really forgot how funny and evil Devito was as Louie.

Re: Where are the rest of the seasons of 'Taxi'
Interesting. I found a 'Taxi' channel on YouTube that has just about every episode of Taxi - probably the syndicated versions off the TV. Anyway, I checked out the episode 'Louie's Fling' and I didn't hear the music from 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' in that version, so I guess they replaced it for this DVD release. Would that be considered an easter egg...?
Also, the episode 'Elegant Iggy' had about 30 seconds cut off the end of it, when everybody is sitting around the piano and singing. I guess, once again, they couldn't clear the song used.
I just know, come season 5, we're gonna see some 'creative' editing of the episode 'Jim's Inheritance', because there is no way they're gonna be able to clear Stevie Wonder's 'You Are The Sunshine of My Life'. It's a real shame too, because that song is so important in that scene.
That said, I'm still happy to have the complete series on DVD. And I did notice some footage put back in, (compared to the versions I've seen for years on TV), like the end of the 'Jim the Psychic' episode where Jim goes on about Alex being a ghost. I also noticed in most of the episodes a line here or there that I didn't remember hearing before.
It's better than having a bunch of VHS tapes lying around.

Picked up season five. Amazed how much music was cleared. Look's like "Jim's Mario's" piano scene was the only victim...The dissolve was rough, but nowhere near as bad as Season 4's Elegant Iggy chop cut.
