Prices seem kinda low...but you can rack up some serious cash by selling some TV on DVD sets. I'll look into it for whatever I don't sell at my garage sale next weekend

Re: Amazon now buying back DVDs, Blu-ray and HD DVDs

Looks like they're only accepting a limited selection of hd dvds. Nothing comes up when type hd-dvd titles such as superman , transformers, smokin aces, dawn of the dead, the game. When I do a search for "bourne", I only get the Ultimatum combo; identity and supremacy dont show up.

Anyone think they will broaden their selection? I searched like 20 dvds I want to get rid of, and found no results. Popular ones too, like Butterfly Effect, Austin Powers collection, Across the Universe, etc.

Anyone know if the DVDs/Blu's have to be in mint condition? Do a few light scratches matter?

Yeah, they really aren't accepting that much.

They offer so little's it's hardly worth it unless you're broke and want to get rid of 1000s of titles.

Re: Amazon now buying back DVDs, Blu-ray and HD DVDs

You would get twice as much by selling it on Amazon Marketplace. lol Only 40 bucks for the Star Trek MPT blu-ray set is pretty bad.

On the flip side, I have several dvds that are going for 0.01 on Marketplace so maybe Amazon could offer more.

Or if you want to ditch titles that you're planning to upgrade to Blu-ray. I mean who really wants the SE SD DVD of Donnie Darko or The Matrix?

I know. You buy a DVD for $15-20 and sell it back and get $3.75? $2.50?
I did that for awhile at FYE, they had the smae thing going.
It's not too bad if you sell off 10-15 at a time, you may be able to pry one DVD back with what you make but other than that...

The prices are almost as low as what Gamestop use to give for DVDs. I think DVDPlanet or even Seconspin are better options for trade-in.

Umm...you can buy that set from Amazon for less than $40 brand new. And you want them to buy it used from you for $80? Huh? You can buy the 6-movie blu-ray set for less than $80.

Lame! Take them to a pawn shop for store credit and buy more DVDs! That's what I do with titles I replace or upgraded.

Re: Amazon now buying back DVDs, Blu-ray and HD DVDs

yeah, what they accept is limited.

I've been using swaptree.com lately. Getting books and dvds in exchange for dvds i don't want anymore.

Its been working well.

These are barely better than pawn shop prices. If you want to sell something on Amazon, just use their own Marketplace.

$7.50 for The Usual Suspects BD?

Or sell it yourself for $13.99?

Re: Amazon now buying back DVDs, Blu-ray and HD DVDs

These prices aren't great, sure, but what kind of pawnshops are you going to? All the ones in my area give a flat 75c for any DVD regardless of age. When you have the choice between 75c and $3.50, the latter looks a lot better.

I go to a specialty store in Seattle, the famous Scarecrow Video, and I usually get a good amount of store credit for my trade-ins.

Hopefully they broaden their selection in the upcoming weeks. Right now it seems kind of spare.

Actually, $7.50 might be better.

Remember that Amazon takes 30% of that $13.99. And of course, there is no guarantee that it sells even if you have the lowest price. The $7.50 is guaranteed. The $9.70 is not. And of course, there is also the factor of possibly getting a dishonest buyer and losing $.

I think the commission is more like 15% which isnt much on low dollar items. Then they give you $3.99 for shipping costs. A single dvd cost much less to ship 1st class so you gain a little there.

You're partly right. It is 15%, but with an additional 99 cent closing fee, and another 80 cent closing fee. So a $13.99 item would have $4.59 in fees, so 30% is a good rough estimate for sub-$20 items. And they only give you $2.98 shipping credit on single DVDs. Any possible profit in that is easily gone once you factor in packaging costs, delivery confirmation, and trip to the post office.

Especially if you are selling multiple ~$13.99 items, it looks like it would work out cheaper to mail them in one lot for $7.50 per.

Re: Amazon now buying back DVDs, Blu-ray and HD DVDs

Argh. They are buying ST TOS remastered seasons 2 & 3 for $20 apiece but they are not buying season 1. And of course, season 1 is the one that I want to unload as I wound up with two copies of this set. I would gladly sell it to Amazon for $20 -- SecondSpin is only offering a measley $5! Sigh.
