I just got this dvd player for my girlfriend and the player continues to dim the light in and out. It's really annoying, we tried adjusting the settings in the setup menu and nothing seemed to fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

When you say it "dims the light in and out", do you mean the screen gets lighter and darker? If so, it's probably macrovision, which is caused usually when you run the player through a VCR. It is a copy protection thing. Try running the player directly into the TV.

However, if you mean the lights in the house are dimming, something is messed up!

OK, I feel better now. Goblincat was exactly right, but how hard is it to crack the manual before coming here? I'm sure this problem is in there in at least 2 places (at the front and in the troubleshooting sections).

Come on now stevevt, let's be a little easier on him. We don't even know if he has the manual.

Yup, I know. Kinda cranky this morning. My bad.

I bet if he does a forum search for "dvd player" and "dim" he'll find the answers to his questions, too. Whoops, more crankiness.

Anyhow, rtfm can be used in a lighthearted, fun way. And that's what I was (sort of) going for.

Anyhow...

I checked the manual and it says nothing about macrovision! She has a tv with a built in vcr so is that the problem and that's what makes the picture go from light to dark? Steve you are an idiot, at least Goblin is nice and answers questions.

Yes, that is the problem. It sees the VCR and the protection kicks in, thinking you are going to illegally copy the DVD to say a VHS tape. That sucks that the vcr is built in the tv. If it wasn't, you could get an RF mod. if the tv didnt have the correct input. But, yes, it is the VCR being there that makes the picture go light and dark.
