Best re-invention of a franchise (past 15 years)?
With "Star Trek" just being released, the past few years have seen some stellar re-inventions/re-imaginings of either long dormant franchises or almost complete re-inventions from a first film.
A re-invention meaning (to me at least) taking elements from the original movie or franchise with one or more sequels and changing them pretty drastically so the original is almost unrecognizable. Creating a completely new experience wholly unto itself.
With "Batman Begins" and "Casino Royale" within the past 5 years, i think it will be a tight race. I included a little for everyone including some not so highly regarded by some, horror re-inventions.
My vote will have to go to "Batman Begins". While i loved "Casino Royale" and "Star Trek" was excellent and still fresh in the mind, i think BB just brought it to a new level and what re-inventions will be measured against for some time. it blew away many expectations and i didn't even have the chance to see it theatrically which, to me, makes it that much more impressive. it is my most watched film since 2005 and it continues to titillate everytime i see it.
I am also not including sequels that have come along after a long period of time like "Rambo", "Indiana Jones", "Die Hard", etc. They weren't so much re-inventions as they were direct sequels.
So what do you think is the best re-invention of late?

I think Batman Begins wins in my book as well. Star Trek is flat out entertainment, Batman Begins had a bit more gravitas going for it. Casino Royale isn't far behind either.

Batman Begins, with Casino Royale & Star Trek close behind.
How does The Day the Earth Stood Still fit in here? It's not a franchise series; just a plain old remake.

Voted for Star Trek Babies. I loved Casino Royale, but it was a little too "influenced" by the Bourne series. Batman Begins was awesome for two acts, but descended into the same old cheesiness by the end -- the sequel was much better.

Star Trek gets my vote. Just awesome from start to finish and despite what others say, actually co-exists--and not overwrites--with what came before.

Batman hands down followed by Trek. Personally I would watch Godzilla remake 10x over Casino Royale.

Star Trek, for the sole reason that it made me a fan (of the newest movie at least). With Batman and Casino, I already loved both franchises, but this newest Trek movie made me a brand new fan.

There were other great Star Trek and James Bond incarnations before Star Trek and Casino Royale, but for my money only Tim Burton's 1989 Batman is on par with the Nolanverse. It really is the definitive Bat-franchise (so far).

Having not seen Star Trek yet, I'd say Batman Begins by a country mile. I have a feeling though, even after I see ST, Batman Begins will still be the lead.

Even running this poll seems nearly pointless in this forum when it's pretty much guaranteed Batman Begins would win. Hell, I voted for it too.

Batman Begins. Nolan did it right, Schumacher and Burton did it wrong. Bale IS Batman, Keaton, Clooney and Kilmer were all wrong for the Batman character.

IMO, Keaton is still a better Batman, Bale is the better Bruce Wayne.
Still, was never a huge fan of the Burton Batman movies.

Batman Begins hands down will own this poll but Star Trek may someday be right-up there with best of them for re-starts!

Best: Batman Begins
Most disappointing: Godzilla, Still really pissed about that, I wish they did the movie right, I would love to have a real godzilla movie with todays Visual Effects, If the movie was done by some other dirctor and done well, we could of had a few sequels by now with a few of the godzilla monsters, it could of been awesome.

This is a race between Batman Begins, Casino Royale and Star Trek IMO. I don't think any of the movies listed even hold a candle to these and are pretty shitty re-do's IMO (I have to believe the vote for Day The Earth Stood Still was either a mistake or someone being sarcastic...)
I have a hard time choosing between those top 3, because they are all great for different reasons... if we're talking about FRANCHISE, you immediately think sequels - which means that Casino Royale gets a strike against it because it did reinvent Bond in spectacular fashion, but the followup left much to be desired. Batman Begins was great, but I didn't think it was as much of a reinvention as Casino - but The Dark Knight was perfect, so advantage Batman. Star Trek was fun and a really great IDEA fueled the reboot, but without knowing how it'll play out, I think voting for it is premature....

Very tough PIck between Batman Begins and Casino ROyale. I went with Casino ROyale because it managed to best over 20 other Bond films to become the best Bond film ever. (Side note: Thanks for fucking things up Marc Forster!!!!!!)
Batman Begins is a masterpiece of entertainment as well but Dark Knight did already eclipse it. Still both are great and I love both.

Godzilla has been remade sort of. I always considered Cloverfield to be a modern re imagining if you will of Godzilla
