stupid queston about speakers

Do you need to connect speakers to a receiver or a stereo system for it to work?
can i just connect these speakers (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00001NTW5/002-6928022-1961817) to the outputs on the dvd player, and will it work?
or does it have to be amplified?

Generally I have never heard of a DVD player with speaker terminals.
So the answer to your question is yes, you do need a receiver or stereo to power those speakers.
